BREAKING: “THIS IS MUCH DEEPER THAN ANYONE THINKS!” Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy warns that Republicans' midterm disaster has handed Democrats control of EVERY presidential swing state's governorship – giving them an astronomical advantage heading into 2028!
Most of the attention has focused on Democrats taking back the House and Senate, but McCarthy pointed to something potentially even more consequential: Democrats now control a majority of America's governorships for the first time since 2010 – including EVERY major presidential swing state.
“What is extraordinary,” McCarthy told Fox News, is not just the House and the Senate – it's the governorships.”
Democrats will hold at least 28 governorships, having flipped Republican-held seats in Texas, Ohio, Georgia, Iowa and Nevada.
And they'll also control the governor's office in the seven states that could be central to the next presidential contest: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.
That matters a lot because governors wield enormous influence over state policy, election administration and the political organizations that help candidates compete statewide.
Democrats will enter the next presidential cycle with a powerful network of governors in the very states where presidential campaigns concentrate their resources.
What’s more, Democrats have also made sweeping gains in state legislatures, breaking Republican control in states where the GOP had dominated for years.
“This went very deep,” McCarthy admitted. “It's going to take time to build back.”
There's a rich irony in hearing this from McCarthy, who rushed to Mar-a-Lago to kiss Trump's ring just weeks after the January 6 insurrection, helping restore the disgraced former president's standing. Now he's explaining just how profound the party's electoral losses really are.
McCarthy is right about one thing: This victory goes far beyond Washington and Democrats just got a powerful head start on 2028.
RIP MAGA.

Greg Abbott continued to get elected by fomenting fear that Mexicans and immigrants were going to take our jobs and destroy our way of life.
That he actually had his job taken by a Mexican woman is a level of poetic justice worthy of a Dickens novel.

BREAKING: HOLY SMOKES! Democrats now control enough states to effectively abolish the Electoral College through the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.
Republicans did NOT have this on their bingo cards...
Under the Constitution, states control their electoral votes and are allowed to decide how they are allocated during presidential elections. Currently, almost every state gives its votes to whoever wins the state.
In practice, the current system means that a candidate can win the national popular vote, but lose the election because small states like Wyoming exert undue influence on the outcome. That state has 3 electoral votes with a population of just 577,000 people. California has 54 electoral votes and a population of 39.5 million people. So a vote in Wyoming is essentially 3.8 times as valuable as one in California.
Since 1992, Democrats have won the popular vote seven out of nine times.
Under the NPV, states that join agree to give their electoral votes to whoever wins the national popular vote, not just their own state. So a state could go red on the map, but if the Democrat wins the national vote, they still get that state's votes. And vice versa of course.
The crucial mechanism is that the compact doesn't trigger until the member states have a combined power of at least 270 electoral votes, the number needed to win the White House. So far, 18 states plus D.C. have joined, totaling 222 electoral votes. We only need 48 more.
Now is the chance to pass this measure in every state possible. Democrats won both houses of the legislature in Wisconsin for the first time in 18 years (10 electoral votes). We won the Pennsylvania state Senate for the first time since 1993 (19 votes). We now have a trifecta in Michigan (15 votes). And we won the governor’s race in Nevada (6 votes).
10 + 19 + 15 + 6 = 50.
222 + 50 = 272.
And if we hold our lead in the Arizona Senate, that number could climb as high as 283, more than enough to trigger the compact.
In addition to removing an imbalance in our system that favors Republicans, this novel approach would fundamentally change how candidates run their presidential campaigns. Currently, they are incentivized to ignore most of the country. If you live in a “safe” state, red or blue, your vote for President is basically decided before you cast it. Campaigns spend their time and money in a handful of swing states while the rest of us watch from the sidelines. If the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact is adopted, they'll have reason to hit every state because they're aiming to win the largest swath of the country as a whole, not just certain states.
States have until July 20, 2028 to join the compact in time for the next presidential election.
We can fix our democracy. The time is now.

This Australian's reply to Trump's rant about “NATO not being there for America” is perfect.
"Mate. You run a country with 600,000 homeless people sleeping on the street tonight. A country where 40% of adults can't cover a $400 emergency without borrowing money. A country where insulin costs more than a car payment and people are rationing it to survive. A country where medical debt is the number 1 cause of bankruptcy. A country where women are dying in hospital car parks because doctors are too scared of abortion laws to treat a miscarriage.
You lock up more of your own citizens than any nation on earth. More than China. More than Russia. More than North Korea. The land of the free has 2 million people in cages, and a quarter of them haven't even been convicted of anything. They're just too poor to make bail.
Your life expectancy is going backwards. You're the only developed nation where that's happening. Your infant mortality rate is worse than Cuba's. Your kids do active shooter drills between maths and English while you sell the gunmaker's stock to your mates.
Your minimum wage hasn't moved in 15 years. You've got teachers working 2 jobs and veterans sleeping under bridges and you just spent a trillion dollars flattening a country that didn't attack you.
And you’ve got a convicted felon, adjudicating raping, paedophile protecting, porn star shagging insurrectionist running the biggest dumpster fire war campaign since the Taliban in Afghanistan thanked you very much for losing again.
And you're calling Greenland poorly run?
Greenland has universal healthcare. Free education. One of the lowest incarceration rates in the world. Nobody goes bankrupt there because they got sick. Nobody dies in a waiting room because their insurance said no.
'NATO wasn't there when we needed them." When exactly was that, champ? September 11? Because NATO invoked Article 5 for the first and only time in history FOR YOU. Soldiers from dozens of countries deployed, fought, bled, and died in Afghanistan FOR YOU. Australia wasn't even in NATO and we still showed up. For 20 years.
And you pulled out at 2am without telling anyone and left them to deal with the mess.
So maybe before you start calling other countries poorly run, have a look at your own backyard, you spray-tanned aluminium siding salesman. The only thing poorly run in this picture is your f----- mouth."

BREAKING: MAD KING! Trump humiliates his own supporters by boasting that they wouldn't be able to afford the menu at Mar-a-Lago as the affordability crisis worsens!
He really does not give a damn about anyone...
"But the only caveat is that the Trump Dividend it has— You have to spend the money in the United States. Go to Florida. Go to any one of our great places," Trump said at a Texas rally, referring to the $5,000 bribe that he's promised to every American if Republicans maintain control of Congress after the midterm elections.
To point out the incredibly obvious, if Republicans do carry these elections (which they won't) those "Trump Dividends" will never materialize, just like every other monetary promise he's made in the past. The only people who make money under this President are him, his family, and his cronies. Working class Americans get shafted at every turn.
"You could even come to Mar-a-Lago. I said it the other night. You'll be my guest at Mar-a-Lago. The problem is that for $5,000 the most you'll be able to buy is a hamburger and maybe a small dessert," he added, chuckling. I'm not even sure you could buy that. No, don't go there. That's not a good place If you're price conscious."
Obviously, a hamburger and small dessert don't cost $5,000 at Mar-a-Lago but Trump's point was clear. The braying, mindless MAGA idiots who file into arenas to hear him speak are of a lower class and can't afford to dine with him. This disdain for his supporters is a recurring theme in Trump's rhetoric. He hates these people because they're crude, stupid, and easily manipulated, which is ironically the exact reason that they support him.
At this point, Trump could not possibly make it any clearer that he doesn't care about our collective financial suffering. He created this crisis with his disastrous Iran War, and now he's up on stage rubbing it in our faces and admitting that he doesn't mind high gas prices. He hates average Americans and it's time we paid him back.

AOC: One of the things that I find mind-boggling is that whenever we want to expand health care in this country, Medicare in this country, education, everyone’s first question in Washington is: How are we going to pay for this?
Yet every single year, the United States Congress rubber-stamps trillions and trillions of dollars in current and expanded spending without anyone asking at all: How are we going to pay for this?
By the way, the Pentagon has continued to fail every audit. They are paying for it with your health care and lack thereof.
So it’s about time that we flip the equation and start asking, How can we afford war after war after war?
