5 things government could do for music ed (England): 1) Make music mandatory in all schools, all pupils 2) Overhaul music teacher training & recruit more 3) Make music a key issue in Ofsted inspections 4) Double the music hub grant 5) Manage music hubs directly from DFE

I gave myself a couple of hours to summarise what I thought of the Industrial Strategy consultation out yesterday. 24 hours later I still think it is pretty good ... 1/
Is Invest 2035 a success? @Gilesyb says there is much to welcome in the latest incarnation of government industrial strategy. But in the next phase, there needs to be a further sharpening of its focus👇 instituteforgovernment.org.u…

What a stupid decision. God forbid academics do relevant, interesting work that changes the political and policy environment. That's definitely a waste of money.
End of an era. Gutted to have to announce this today. Proud of what @UKandEU has achieved and very grateful to all those who have worked with us ukandeu.ac.uk/announcement/s…

Regrettable decision by @ESRC which they should reconsider. @UKandEU @anandMenon1 have applied calm analysis to the most contentious issue in UK politics. They've given Leavers & Remainers alike the chance to speak & reflect, and they've always been led by the evidence

I am indebted to UKICE for the interviews they did on the Brexit years, which I have used in my last two books, alongside my own sources. There is also a huge body of knowledge here as the new govt begins to redraw the relationship with the EU. Someone find the money for them...

I don't remember hearing a higher standard at #bbcyoungmusician than I heard in last night's audition round, which produced several potential winners. I like the format changes too. Why is this inspiring programme not being shown on BBC1 or BBC2?

This is an extremely important point. It is even more frustrating when this is done quite at odds with the elected representation secured. When it suits them, broadcasters switch from representation to vote share to provide a thin justification for editorialising our politics.
Media have power they rarely fully appreciate and they definitely have a obsession with far right and Farage. Obsessive coverage of these almost certainly does not have the effect that most in the media intend it to have. So, maybe, just stop it?

Inspiring morning witnessing the power of music in action at an intergenerational music making session in a care home. Watching children and residents interact & make music together, led by the brilliant Kamila Almabetova, was a moving experience @IMMmusicUK #talkinggenerations

A reminder that this is Conservative central office masquerading as an independent factcheck on Twitter tonight (they did the same thing in 2019).
Keir Starmer wants to talk about what he did before politics. He should tell the British people about the terrorist groups and hate preachers he defended. Don't put Britain's national security in his hands. Don't let him surrender our borders. #BBCDebate

I found this part of my interview with @EdwardJDavey very moving: On the election campaign you've been quite playful. And I feel like you've been clowning around in a way that for other politicians would seem quite inauthentic. And it got me thinking - is that the kind of Ed Davey that you see at home? The joker?   Ed Davey: you'll have to ask my family but with John… because he doesn't communicate very well… he’s more verbal now - he said daddy when he was nine which was a fantastic day for me - but because he has these problems, you have to be quite playful. And he's quite playful, actually. So, yeah, we have lots of fun together. And that can be doing lion impressions, pig impressions, he likes his trains and all these funny programs that are normally for children slightly younger than him, I have to say, but, he gets into them and I get into them with him.   What's your favourite program?   Davey: Probably between Furchester hotel or Mr. Tumble Video 👇

LibDems and Ed Davey in particular are using humility and humour to win the PR battle so far, a rare combo in politics.
Caring isn’t just my family's story, it is the story of millions, caring for each other, dealing with tough times, and keeping going with love. Sharing our story hasn't been easy, but it's important. It's time to bring carers' experiences into the light.
