I’m in the Colchester Gazette! Looking forward to debating a motion with my friend @WhigLiberal whether religious preachers should be banned from Colchester’s city streets. I will oppose this draconian ban.

Our Director, Lord Singh of Wimbledon's contribution in @UKHouseofLords debate earlier this week on - UK-US Discussions: Reducing International Tension 'Does the Minister agree that a person who constantly attacks the UN, sanctions members of the International Criminal Court and acts like a cheap market trader constantly looking for deals—even to the extent of helping Russia in its aggression against Ukraine—cannot help the move towards peace? Does she further agree that a foreign policy that divides countries into friends and enemies is seriously dated, and that instead we should be looking to what Sikhs call Sarbat da bhala—the wider interests of wider humanity?' #UK #US #Ukraine #Russia

Part 2 of a rather fractious exchange on #PoliticsLive. Difficult discussions too often turn toxic once the challenges of mass immigration/integration are raised as problems, even though I was arguing this is only one aspect of the riots in France.

The older I get, the more I realize just how many places C. S. Lewis has already been there, done that, considered some version of the argument 10x better than what's being raised, shot it down, then turned its skin into a T-shirt saying "I was here."

Last year an average 42 illicit mobile phones *a day* were found in prisons in England and Wales. We know this is the tip of the safety iceberg. It is perfectly possible, inevitable even, that imprisoned terrorists use phones here to continue offending. thetimes.com/article/9a08bfe…

I was keen to watch the BBC documentary Being Muslim After 9/11 not least because I anticipated reference to the first person killed in retribution for 9/11, Balbir Singh Sodhi, a Sikh gas station owner from Mesa, Arizona. His murderer, Frank Silva Roque, was clear on his intent when he told a waiter, 'I’m going to go out and shoot some towel heads.' The Sikh turban and beard are conflated by ignorant bigots with the attire of Osama bin Laden and the black turban-clad misogynists of the Taliban. Muslims have indeed suffered since 9/11, but sadly, non-Muslim victims of the post-9/11 backlash were remarkably not mentioned once in the hour-long documentary, which aired on BBC Two this week. The documentary by film-makers Mobeen Azhar and Masood Khan includes their personal reflections 25 years on from 9/11, featuring interviews with friends such as Baroness Warsi and Salma Yaqoob. They reflect on how things have changed for British Muslims since the attack on the Twin Towers. ✍️ Hardeep Singh Article | spectator.com/article/muslim…

Me in @spectator Muslims weren’t the only victims to suffer after 9/11 ‘The BBC’s documentary is just another institutional expression of this myopic, self-serving and insular worldview. It reminds me of Shakespeare’s writing in The Merchant of Venice: ‘If you prick us, do we not bleed?’ More depressing still, Being Muslim After 9/11 demonstrates that the BBC has failed to grasp the concept of ‘perception-based’ hate crime.’ spectator.com/article/muslim…
