🇵🇸 "Mama, cover me. Mama, I'm scared," 7-year-old Jouri al-Soufi told her mother as gunfire rang out near their tent in Khan Younis before dawn Monday. Moments later, an Israeli bullet struck her in the heart as she lay under her blanket, her mother told the Palestinian newspaper Felesteen. Her mother, Islam Abu Muammar, didn't realize Jouri had been hit until she tried to wake her and found blood on her side. Jouri's grandmother and other women in the family, one of them pregnant, were also wounded. The family said ambulances couldn't reach them for an hour or more because the shooting continued near the "yellow line," the boundary of Israeli-occupied Gaza under the ceasefire. Jouri was a top student in second grade, her family said. Israeli forces killed her father about a year and a half earlier, and she had lived through hunger and displacement since. "My daughter was the most precious thing in my life," her mother said.
