Oh so beautifully articulated by @paulfinneyx
There's something profound about mid stage male friendship that I've been thoroughly enjoying this year.
Drawing from Brené Brown's "Atlas of the Heart" and watching these relationships unfold, I see patterns that feel both ancient and startlingly new:
Picture us, in 30s, sharing a weekday evening filter coffee at our favorite darshini. The conversation flows between fantasy football and fatherhood without the self-consciousness of younger years.
What makes these friendships distinct is their peculiar timing: caught between the relentless momentum of career-building and the gravitational pull of family life.
It's friendship in the margins – carved out in 40-minute phone calls during commutes, in shared Google calendars marking monthly meetups that feel both sacred and perpetually negotiable.
The depth comes not from marathon late-night conversations (those belonged to our 20s), but in the shorthand we develop. A simple "you good?" text carries weight because we know each other's baseline, can read the subtle shifts in tone. We know which questions to ask and, more importantly, which ones to save for later.
What fascinates me is the development of what Brown calls "emotional granularity" in these relationships. Men who started with basic emotional vocabularies of "good" and "bad" begin to share more nuanced territories: the specific shade of grief that comes with watching your parents grow old, the complex pride-fear cocktail of a career pivot, the tender worry of watching your friend navigate a complex marriage.
This develops further into new beautiful nuanced behaviours/ moments - imagine this - ooof 😭 - A friend fixing sink suddenly shares about his father's decline into dementia, the words are flowing easier when hands are busy and eyes are focused elsewhere. There's a particular grace to this moment - how they don't demand direct eye contact or immediate response, and how we honor the masculine tendency to process emotion through motion and parallel play.
These friendships thrive on practical intimacy: helping with a move, troubleshooting a toddler's sleep regression, quietly noting when the other seems off their axis. The vulnerability isn't announced – it seeps through the cracks of ordinary moments, like between the half time whistle at coolulu and debating ai agents on Christmas Eve.
It's friendship that's learned to breathe in smaller spaces but somehow grows deeper roots. Like those Japanese maple trees that thrive in confined spaces, these bonds adapt to the constraints of our mid-30s lives while developing surprising strength.
Biggest learning of this year has been to hold space for each other's contradictions: ambitious yet tired, confident yet quietly uncertain, more settled but somehow more restless too.
More to friendships not only built on Shared interests alone, but on shared understanding of life's beautiful mess.
An absolute banger of a list by @tarinilyy! brilliant stuff by @ajit_bhaskar at Thindi Capital, Wine in Progress is a hidden gem, the lovely folks at Sprentso make it SO easy and welcoming to get into any sport and Weekenders by @ankitv is just wholesome :)

What mesmerising writing is this! Thanks @reddy2go for capturing the imli pop sentiment so purely
@localfermentco
childhood, that elusive fountain of youth we all chase like a mirage in the desert of adulthood. we long to return to it's coolness, to splash in those waters, to embrace the raw energy of play without a care in the world
it's a dream we all share, a collective hallucination of simpler times.
but what if i told you there was a way back: a teleportation device that could transport you back to those carefree days?
might sound like science fiction, but it's as real as the sweat on your brow and the ache in your bones 😆 when you walk up the same steps you used to cartwheel down
enter imlipop, a concoction so potent it could make a grown man jump with glee! remember those little imli toffees we used to devour as kids? well, they've evolved, mutated into something far more dangerous and funtoxicating 😜
this isn't your average drink, my friends. it's a portal to the past, a liquid time machine that'll have you questioning reality faster than you can say "nostalgia."
i stumbled upon this elixir when @noopur30 shared 'em at @rohanbabu's sadya get together. @itspsneha and i had been talking non-stop so we looked forward to the drink being passed around. one glance and, like a neon sign flickering in the dark, the popping colors had me transfixed!
"drink at your own risk," is all i have to say. for it's not just refreshment; it is a journey into the heart of childhood itself!
as i cracked open the bottle, the scent hit me like a freight train of memories. suddenly, i was back on the playground, skinned knees and all. the taste exploded on my tongue, a symphony of sweet and sour that danced across my taste buds
with each sip, the years melted away. i felt the weight of adulthood lifting from my shoulders, replaced by the boundless energy of youth. it is as if the very essence of childhood has been distilled into this miraculous beverage 🤌🏽
so beware, dear reader, for this journey is not without its perils. the line between past and present blurs, and you may find yourself lost in the labyrinth of memory. it's a beautiful madness, a chaotic waltz through time
as i write this, the image of the empty bottle of imlipop appears before me, a testament to the wild ride i've experienced. my fingers tremble with the aftershocks of nostalgia, my mind reeling from the temporal whiplash of time travel
so, if you dare to chase that fountain of youth, to dive headfirst into the waters of childhood @localfermentco is brewing your ticket back in time 🕰️ but remember...
once you take that first sip, there's no going back. you'll be forever changed, caught between two worlds, a time traveler in your own life!
drink up, my friends, and let the madness begin. childhood awaits, with all it's wonder and chaos. just don't blame me when you find yourself building pillow forts 🥳 and eating ice cream for breakfast 😋
after all, that's the price of youth, and it's a bargain at any cost!
So well written @SumedhaUppal
onam ashamsakal from the wonderful people of @dastarkhwanclub from our full bellies from sadhya to yours. ✨
