I really hate this NELFUND argument. And as usual those defending the government have concluded that one of the most lavish administrations in the world cannot afford to fund tertiary education. UNESCO recommends that at least 15–20% of the federal budget be allocated to education. That is the barest minimum. But of course, this forward-thinking government of the people gives barely 5%, as there are presidential aircraft to be refurbished, SUV fleets to be upgraded, and villas to be renovated, so they cannot afford to invest in education, unfortunately. Instead, they pass the burden onto you by giving you loans. No government that blows billions on frivolities should have the audacity to tell its citizens it cannot give education the barest minimum, yet even with the second highest number of out-of-school children in the world, they do. Because they know for a fact that a number of you have reached such levels of idiocy that you will clap when they spit in your face. And scream for joy and praise them, in your poverty-induced myopia, for their "benevolence", calling it a "good initiative", and start drawing parallels to the US, UK, Canada, and Australia. They enjoyed the same education for free, pulled the ladder up behind them, and now hand you a loan instead. And yet you praise them for your future debts, calling it "interest-free" and that you can pay back "only when you're comfortable." Can you not see that you're mad?

ask why lagos lacks piped water and central sewage, and they’ll blame overpopulation. oya, ask why abuja has the same problems, and they go silent. halve lagos’ population and they’ll probably just switch from blaming overpopulation to blaming revenue.
You guys conveniently compare Nigeria to European countries when it comes to free stuff, but you never extend that comparison to taxation, which is just as important to the discussion.

In 2022 ASUU went on strike to demand about 110 billion for revitalization of universities along with other owed allowances. In same year, the Accountant General of the federation was accused of a fraud of approximately 109billion naira. You can keep pretending to be stupid.
So, in a poor nation where 70% of its 240 million population is under 20 years, how exactly do you fund quality education for 18000 a year????

This is what all the reforms are for btw @deiilucis. Superficially stronger macros to get more loans. It's kicking the can down the road. Even worse, it's selling you & me, barely 21 years old, down the river. There are no reforms, there's no long-term vision. Na fugazi.

Are European taxes ending up in shell companies in Liechtenstein or the Isle of Man, though? Higher taxes are not a magic bullet, can the leaders be trusted to put the taxes to good use is the question and the answer is no, so I'll continue to oppose higher taxes in Nigeria.

this line of thinking is not as smart as y'all think it is
Watching videos of Nigerians speak English from years back have shown me how very adulterated English in Nigeria has become.

Neocolonized societies breed people that believe in white supremacy, it’s not just Ghana and Nigeria
we are going to start asking very honest questions why ghana and Nigeria in particular consistently breed citizens like this in the diaspora. I hope he has a lot of fun in detention though.
