update: the time has come for me (Oliver) to say a fond farewell to Sotherans in the near future. I'll be passing this account along to safe hands, and to talented people with more time to take care of it! it's been a rare pleasure. please redirect weird mail to @deathbybadger

following on from that, my colleague, friend and literature expert Rebekah (light of my life, my moon and stars) leaves Sotherans this month to pursue her new venture at Fold the Corner Books, so please show her some support if you can: foldthecornerbooks.co.uk/

all that being said, Sotherans continues (as always) in new form with some lovely people both old and nascent who continue the great work. I've been sad not to have had as much time as usual to take care of this account lately, and I will be very happy to see it taken up anew

Lovely things have recently arrived on our shelves. See them here! Or in the shop. Or both. Either is fine. sotherans.co.uk/collections/…

I just read an interview in @guardian with Tilda Swinton and thought 1. Isn't she splendid? 2. Wasn't she splendid in Orlando? 3. Isn't this Orlando just as splendid? sotherans.co.uk/products/woo…

I splurged and bought myself a signed, first-edition copy of General Henry R. H. MacIver’s biography. Thanks, @Sotherans!

A plague of different ailments has struck the staff so we will be closing at 4 today, 14th June. Really sorry for the inconvenience, but we couldn't leave Dave to crew the ship alone.

Anyway, here's a nice cosy corner to sit in. Perfect for gremlins to perch on while concocting ways to utterly derange our WiFi.

Small victories - we now have a card machine that works, a phone that rings and a door buzzer that buzzes. I ask myself, is this what efficiency looks like?

gentle friends we are still setting a few things up in the new premises, so you may find that your phone calls won't connect, or are answered by sinister static, or by the ghost of henry sotheran, please use email and other less haunted communication methods in the meantime

and just like that, it's done! we've officially moved out of Sackville Street (we took the shelves in spite) to new premises on Upper Brook Street. Alas the ghost has followed us, and we found another cursed clock, but we do hope to elude our creditors in the dust and confusion

I almost got sentimental last week as we closed the doors for the last time but then one last sackville street 'customer' came OVER the RUBBLE with 40 seconds to go just so they could complain there weren't enough books on the shelves and I was like throw away the key

also you may see a lot of this going around but in our defence some of those cases were heavy and besides the country is FULL of our old bookcases, historically speaking we shed some every 50 years or so xitter.cf/sgaventa/status/177449…
Visited Shepton Mallet flea market and was surprised to see ⁦@Sotherans⁩ shop fittings for sale inc desks, display cabinets and signs . Bought long bookshelf sign ' first editions, English literature and finely bound books ' as a memento. 😢
