Since @Addameer is under renewed Israeli attack after its office being raided in Ramallah yesterday, and one staff member arrested, let's boost their recent report on the transformation of the prisoners' issue after three years of genocide in Gaza:

ALT Bsky post from Sarah Jeong: my hot take is that x is in fact still important for anyone following international affairs. but given how noticeably and publicly brains get pickled from x-immersion, i think anyone with a medical history of being a dope (for example, crypto-optimism) should practice self care and abstain

I’m back in the West Bank to document the olive harvest, which is already shaping up to be even bloodier than last year’s. On my first night, settlers invaded the village where I was staying and torched the car I’d arrived in hours earlier. Link to dispatch in next tweet.

"the IDF knew that our team in Gaza was unarmed and posing a threat to nobody. It had full visual clarity on our clearly marked humanitarian vehicles during the extended, multiple airstrikes. It knew our team’s movements, identities and activities in advance."
We strongly condemn the Israeli military prosecutor’s account of the deaths of our seven colleagues on April 1, 2024. And we fundamentally disagree with their decision about criminal investigations into the IDF airstrikes that killed our team.

"The rape of Palestinian detainees is so commonplace that it’s no longer hidden. It’s filmed, joked about, and celebrated in parliament. This is no mistake; it’s core to Israel’s colonial project."

I guess we wasted everyone’s time with all that due process then… good to know so we avoid such nuisances next time and go straight to the morality vote
???
The issue isn't whether the sexual misconduct charges against International Criminal Court prosecutor Karim Khan can be proved beyond a reasonable doubt (though the ICC bureau said they have been). The issue is whether he has the moral authority and credibility to continue serving as prosecutor. He clearly does not, as the ICC member states should decide tomorrow. justsecurity.org/148713/icc-…

The question is not whether Canada will leave the #ICC, Minister @AnitaAnandMP, but rather: what will Canada do to defend the Court from the unwarranted, mafia-style attacks waged against it by the United States?

In case NATO and Israel's genocide accomplice states in the ASP win the battle to remove Karim Khan, Global South states should already be coalescing around a candidate independent from US, Israel & subaltern European states' influence.

Completely insane story out of the occupied West Bank, in which joyriding Haredi settler kids crashed their car in the Palestinian village of Mukhmas, and the army laid a devastating siege on the community to “rescue” them. Full story in link below.

🚨 Urgent Lawyers letter to ICC states Parties
Extract “You are the decision-makers. You alone will determine whether the Prosecutor is removed. Yet the man whose removal you are considering has been told that his representatives may not address you, may not answer before you the case put against him, and may not correct errors, of which there are many, in the material placed in front of you. We know of no court or tribunal in any proper and fair legal system that bars a person facing the gravest professional sanction from being heard.
So we write openly, though restricted by confidentiality obligations, because no other route has been left to us.”

🚨 An urgent message to the States Parties of the Rome Statute ahead of the vote on 24 July from the Prosecutor’s legal team.
We act for Karim A. A. Khan KC, Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
On Friday, at a Special Session of the Assembly of States Parties, your delegations will vote in person and by secret ballot on whether the Prosecutor should be removed from office under Article 46 of the Rome Statute, in respect of allegations he has consistently denied.
Before that vote is cast, you are entitled to know how this process has been conducted.
The President of the Assembly has closed every formal channel through which Mr Khan’s legal team might make representations to you and has written to all States Parties suggesting that you should not meet with us.
Mr Khan KC and his legal representatives were refused accreditation to attend the session on 24 July. The right under the rules to address you on the substantive decision of misconduct has been flatly denied to us.
Consider what that means.
You are the decision-makers.
So we write openly, though restricted by confidentiality obligations, because no other route has been left to us.
These are the facts. 🧵👇

Genuinely hilarious that anyone thinks you’d have to go out of your way to encounter settler terrorists in the occupied West Bank. You people have no fucking clue what’s going on over here. None

The people who attacked us yesterday are living on private Palestinian land in Area A. The judge says they “did this as part of a private patrol sent by the farm owner, who… sent them to detain their occupants.” One of them was 14 — in other words, a child soldier.

“The IDF is apparently the world’s first army to declare a toilet a closed military zone.”
What? Yes. Settlers blocked a Palestinian family in Umm al-Khair from accessing their toilet. Then the IDF declared it a closed military zone.

While @RoKhanna’s bus was being hijacked, the village he just left—umm al-khair—came under attack as well. Terror everywhere all the time.
A few videos of last night’s attack, when violent settlers invaded umm al-khair to plant Israeli flags and try to steal another tract of land. Take note of all the cheap shots. Throwing a tiny female activist to the ground. Knees to the groin. Kicking someone while hiding behind a friend. Taking a shot at my throat. And then scampering to the IDF when they arrived to cry victim. To be clear — the Palestinians and their allies did not ask for this confrontation, and did not throw a single punch back, which would have resulted in an immediate arrest if not murder. All they want is to be left alone in their tiny peaceful village.

The notion that you must wait for a court to label something a genocide is disingenuous and not in line with current law. Int’l obligations require states to *prevent* genocide, which obviously can’t wait till it’s over. The Holocaust eg was never jusicially called a genocide

In a hotel room in northeast Nigeria, I opened a leading AI chatbot, turned my laptop toward a former Boko Haram commander, and asked if he'd used it. He nodded.
"You type in the question… like 'How can I build a bomb?', and then it tells you how. It is like a human robot. We used it a lot."
