Can someone “please explain” to One Nation, the difference between a slogan and a fully costed and economically modelled policy. They seem to not understand the difference.
While you’re at it; perhaps also explain that an entire platform built around nothing but random, indiscriminate cuts to government spending without any meaningful evidence of inefficiency beyond “I don’t like it” and without any associated plan to replace essential services is not going to “make Australia great” (again)…

Every time someone criticises the quality of our politicians, conservatives fire back with ‘but the country’s still a mess.’
What mess exactly?
Australia has universal healthcare. Free public education. A minimum wage. Compulsory superannuation. One of the highest standards of living on earth. We are not at war. We are not in famine. We are not living under authoritarian rule.
By virtually every global measure, Australia is one of the best countries on earth to be born into. That didn’t happen by accident.
Are there real challenges? Yes. Housing affordability is a genuine crisis. Cost of living is hurting people. Those are legitimate issues that deserve real policy responses.
What they don’t deserve is being weaponised by people who have no intention of solving them.
Because ask yourself — when did you last hear Hanson or One Nation offer an actual successful, budgeted policy solution to housing? To cost of living? Not a grievance. Not a target. An actual successful policy.
Their entire business model is convincing you the country is a disaster so you stay angry enough to vote for them. Scared people don’t ask hard questions. Trump still has “concepts of a health plan” -while the entire country can’t afford healthcare.
Every foundation that makes Australia great was built by progressive governments, opposed at every turn by conservatives.
Medicare. Superannuation. The NDIS. The minimum wage. The National Apology. The two biggest back-to-back budget surpluses in history after inheriting a trillion dollars of Liberal debt.
A decade of Coalition government gave us Robodebt. Sports rorts. A delayed national integrity commission. And a senator found guilty of racially vilifying a PhD engineer.
The country isn’t a mess. But we will be when the people running it have no idea what they were doing

An Open Letter to #AngusTaylor
Dear trembling, spreadsheet-fondling goober,
I was a long-term Liberal voter.
Not casual. Not “occasionally ticked the box and moved on.”
I had the badges. The T-shirts. The “Back in Black” coffee mug.
Good Lord, I even bought Scott Morrison’s ukulele off eBay.
I was committed, mate.
And then you did this.
You made #TimWilson Shadow Treasurer.
What in the deregulated free market hell were you thinking?
You’ve put Tim up against Jim!! @JEChalmers - How in a drunken field of poisoned grass could you do that?
Did you workshop this? Did anyone in the room say, “Angus, maybe don’t send a pamphlet to fight a policy document”?
Because here’s how this lands:
Jim Chalmers is calm. Competent. Measured.
He’s written budgets. Delivered budgets. Fronted the country.
He’s had to answer for inflation, debt, deficits — the whole economic lasagna.
And you’ve sent Dim Tim into that arena armed with vibes and a LinkedIn endorsement.
Let’s not even do the full credential autopsy — it’s indecent.
One has years in senior economic portfolios, nearly four as Treasurer, has delivered fiscal updates, and actually been accountable for outcomes.
The other?
• Zero years as Treasurer or Shadow Treasurer prior to 2026.
• Longest stint in any serious portfolio — barely long enough to remember the Wi-Fi password.
• No responsibility for national debt.
• No responsibility for budgets.
• No responsibility for inflation.
And now he’s meant to stride in and start yelling about who should be “sacked” for debt?
Angus.
WHAT WERE YOU SMOKING?
You don’t send a TED Talk to a Treasury fight.
I watched the announcement like a man watching his dog reverse over his own foot.
-I cried.
-I burnt the T-shirt.
-Threw the coffee mug out the window.
-The ukulele is now a backscratcher and occasionally a doorstop.
You didn’t just misread the room.
You misread the country.
This isn’t factional chess. This is economic credibility. And you just put it in the hands of a bloke whose longest policy commitment was arguing about free speech on campus.
I’m devastated. I’m disoriented. I’m considering voting for the Australian Party of Mild Titillation just out of emotional spite.
This is what you’ve done to me.
Sort yourself out.
Yours in stunned disbelief,
#Noisy

Fascinating that a party which has set records for the number of its elected members that have defected, should now be recruiting candidates from amongst defectors from other parties.

The two Bondi shooters weren’t members of a hate group and they didn’t participate in hate speech in public or online. They were however on a terrorist watch list and out intelligence agencies failed to watch them.
Rather than push 200 pages of new laws which remove freedoms from all Australians, one simple law would prevent an attack like this from occurring again,
DON’T LET PEOPLE ON A TERRORIST WATCH LIST TO HAVE A GUN LICENCE AND OWN GUNS
IF ASIO and the AFP can’t stop a person on a terrorist watch list from owning guns then they won’t be able to stop a person on a hate group list from owning one either. The responsibility should be on them not on us!

National tragedies demand unity, not division. Australia's political leaders came together after Port Arthur, after 9/11, and after the Bali bombing.
The Coalition has spent the past four weeks demanding action in response to the Bondi terrorist attacks, even calling for parliament to return before Christmas. But now, as laws in response to those attacks are being introduced, the Coalition is reportedly set to oppose them, claiming they’ve been developed too quickly.
Australians want their leaders to work together in matters of national security.
Many constituents said to me, after Bondi, that it didn’t reflect who we are as a country. Our response to that tragedy reflects on us as a country too.
And so I'm hoping that next week we can put politics aside, to work constructively on how best to protect all Australians’ security and freedom.
The legislation we’re debating has been developed hastily: that’s what the Opposition demanded. I’d be prepared to stay in Canberra for long as needed for us all to work together to make it better.
But it would be a very sad reflection on this country if our parliament can’t bring itself to agree to start working together to better address extremism, racial and religious hatred, and vilification, in the face of the trauma of the Bondi massacre. I hope that that’s not who we have become.

Imagine if Ley and the LNP had gone to the government after Bondi and said, “Look, this is bigger than both of us. Let’s work together.” It might have been a great moment of national unity. But no. All they could do was play down and dirty partisan politics. An abject disgrace.
