Desperately disappointing news for #Wandsworth residents and others who are keen on a habitable planet.🧵
We keep having to remind this government that the economy is a subset of our environment not the other way round.
The environment is where we live.

✅ Support jobs and industry
✅ Encourage car manufacturers to invest in the UK
✅ Help more people switch to electric

WOW – The IEA has boosted its latest renewable forecast by another 16%
Just 9 months ago, in January 2024, its Renewables 2023 report forecast 3,200GW of capacity – mainly wind and solar – would be built around the world during the five years 2024-2028.
Now, in Renewables 2024, it's significantly increased that forecast, to 3,700GW over the same five years – and a massive 5,500GW by 2030.
It's now forecasting two-thirds more renewable capacity being built than just two years ago.

Super informative, funny and savage takedown of the "carbon capture and storage" con, a non-solution to the #ClimateEmergency which just funnels more money into Big Oil's pockets - by @thejuicemedia, the good people who make these Honest Government Ads

More of the same isn't good enough. We need big emissions cuts + major plans to adapt our homes + infrastructure

A very sensible decision - for which the UK government deserves credit (can’t have been easy to close these pilots).
Electrical heat and low carbon heat networks are the decarb choices that are ready now. Hydrogen still hasn’t made the starting line.
We have decided not to progress work on a hydrogen town pilot until after 2026 decisions on the role of hydrogen for heating.
Heat pumps and heat networks will be the main route to cutting household emissions for the foreseeable future. gov.uk/government/publicatio…

Time to accept it is game over for hydrogen for domestic heating.
Another big blow for hydrogen heat as UK govt scraps plans for a "hydrogen town" trial of 10,000 homes
Follows decisions last yr to scrap 2,000-home "hydrogen village" trials in Redcar & Ellesmere Port
(No independent studies back hydrogen heat anyway)
