I recommend the Murder by the Book exhibition at Cambridge University Library, which tells a fascinating history of classic British crime fiction. A great way to spend a spare hour in the city. cam.ac.uk/stories/murder-by-…

Shakespeare and Company in paris just got in dozens of copies of A James Joyce Yearbook. Published in 1949, the Yearbook is—or was until now—a rarity, with only four listed on abebooks. This batch came in unexpectedly and had been stored in somebody’s home.
In 1949 Transition Press published A James Joyce Yearbook, a compendium of Joyceana edited by Maria Jolas with a cover designed by Andre Masson. It was the only issue of what was planned to be an annual publication.

Today in 1871 is the birth of hotelier Frank Case in Buffalo, NY. No Case, no Algonquin Round Table (or maybe it would have been the Astor Round Table). He's largely forgotten today, except that he's included in the iconic @AlHirschfeld drawing. Read: algonquinroundtable.org/i-fo…

On the afternoon of October 24th 1917, four days after my marriage, my wife surprised me by attempting automatic writing. What came…was so exciting, sometimes so profound, that I persuaded her to give an hour or two day after day to the unknown writer. - WB Yeats to Ezra Pound
