Trump has done everything Putin has wanted him to do. In Helsinki he stood with Putin and disclaimed U.S. intelligence. He lobbied to bring Russia back into the G-7. He withheld military aid to Zelensky and pulled out of Syria to give Russia a freer hand. He questioned NATO, lifted sanctions on Deripaska-linked companies, and walked away from the INF Nuclear Treaty. He walked away from Open Skies, leaving European allies blind to what Russia was actually doing. He slowed down Starlink for Ukraine and struck a diesel fuel deal with Russia even though he could’ve gotten a better deal with Canada. How can you not see the link??

Musk and other tech billionaires are working alongside Putin to replace democracy with a technofascist oligarchy. The path was outlined in the book "The Sovereign Individual" co-authored by William Rees-Mogg which forecast that through means such as cryptocurrencies a super-rich cognitive elite would first break free from democratic control and then seize power. Musk's fellow PayPal mafia member Peter Thiel has written a preface to the book. Thiel has clearly stated that in his view democracy and capitalism are incompatible. Vance owes his position to Thiel's money and influence. Thiel, Musk and David Sacks were reported to have persuaded Trump to take on Vance as his running mate. Don't forget that Musk has had several phone calls with Putin. Now, please read @TimothyDSnyder's invaluable article. – at Hove, England

And yet these grotesque grifting hypocrits are granted an oversized role in the airtime that shapes our politics. Our 'democracy' is even more polluted than our rivers.

The next time Nick Clegg in invited onto BBC to pontificate as an independent tech expert…please note that here he is, named in the $27bn New Mexico judgment as one of execs engaged in a systematic cover-up of Facebook’s deceptive consumer practices.
Woah! Go New Mexico. This is a really important message to Silicon Valley tech companies: you are not above the law

This latest article from Thomas Pikkety, the renowned French economist and leading authority on wealth inequality, should be essential reading here in the UK. His argument is simple. France has never been wealthier. Yet education funding per student has fallen by 20% since 2017, public services are struggling, and inequality is deeply embedded in the system. Sound familiar? The problem isn't that our countries have run out of wealth. It's how that wealth is distributed, who controls it, and the political choices made to protect it. For decades, we've been told that austerity, declining public services and falling living standards are unavoidable consequences of economic crises, yet those same decades have seen extraordinary concentrations of private wealth. Socialise the costs. Privatise the gains. This is the reality we all need to wake up to. These aren't inevitable economic outcomes. They're the consequences of political choices, made over time, that have prioritised the accumulation of private wealth over the needs of society. And as public anger grows, we're seeing a deeply concerning response: The rise of the far right, directing that anger towards immigrants, disabled people, those claiming welfare and other vulnerable groups, rather than towards the economic structures responsible for the inequalities people are rightly furious about. As @NaomiAKlein describes fascism, "it's capitalism's most ferocious threat response. A way of directing public anger downwards at the vulnerable, rather than upwards at the system." Fascism doesn't challenge the status quo. It protects it by giving people someone else to blame. The fundamental question isn't whether our societies can afford something better. It's why, when we've never been wealthier, we're repeatedly told we must accept less. We need to fundamentally rethink an economy built around extraction, exploitation and wealth concentration, and start building one that delivers equitable, sustainable prosperity for everyone. And with the UK Budget next week, this should be a serious warning to @UKLabour. If the Budget fails to acknowledge this fundamental reality, and instead offers another round of "difficult decisions" that protect concentrated wealth while asking ordinary people to shoulder the burden, then @andyburnham really hasn't understood what's happening across Europe. What's unfolding in France isn't an isolated protest. It's a warning of what happens when people stop accepting that a society growing ever wealthier somehow can't afford to give them a better life. This isn't something politicians can keep kicking down the road. The warning signs are everywhere. The question now is whether those in power are prepared to confront the causes, or continue defending the very system that's driving the anger. @ZackPolanski @jeremycorbyn @KemiBadenoch @Nigel_Farage

Both ITV and Channel 4 have done excellent undercover investigations into Reform and Farage, exposing corruption, dodgy finances, racism and misogyny. Why have the BBC not done the same?

⚖️ 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗠𝗮𝗻 𝗖𝗶𝘁𝘆’𝘀 “𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗲𝗳𝘂𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲” 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗳𝗮𝗶𝗹 𝙋𝙖𝙧𝙩 1 - 𝘼 𝙥𝙤𝙞𝙣𝙩𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨 𝙚𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙪𝙧 I am in the process of drafting a detailed article laying out why the Independent Commission was always going to refute Man City’s “irrefutable evidence” and deem it a concoction of lies and forged documents… and why the Appeal Board will do so too. It will take some time to put together though. But what might surprise most people is that even if it had succeeded in deceiving the panel members… Man City’s defence would have still failed! 𝙈𝙖𝙣 𝘾𝙞𝙩𝙮’𝙨 “𝙞𝙧𝙧𝙚𝙛𝙪𝙩𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚” 𝘾𝙊𝙐𝙇𝘿 𝙉𝙊𝙏 𝙖𝙗𝙨𝙤𝙡𝙫𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙢 𝙤𝙛 𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙘𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙨! Even if they had successfully fooled the Independent Commission members into believing it were true, they would have still been in breach of all the same rules and subject to major sanctions. What’s more, the “irrefutable evidence” would actually guarantee that they must be charged with a further 100+ breaches for the 2018/19-2024/25 seasons too. I explain exactly how this is the case in the thread below… but the implication should get people questioning why they even presented this concocted evidence if it was always doomed to fail. When people try to analyse Man City’s actions they often forget that the people in charge are the rulers of the UAE. Money is not important to them - they do not act commercially - only power and influence matter. They are quite literally above the law at home and believe this should apply to them and their endeavours everywhere else. The most important thing to them is their reputation on the world stage. It’s why they bought Man City and spent so much on it. Their “irrefutable evidence” is nothing more than the desperate death throes of the UAE’s collapsing reputation. They will do anything they can to try and spin the narrative into one where they’ve done nothing wrong and it’s only a biased, racist cartel of clubs, the Premier League Board and Independent Commission members that are conspiring against them. It’s an insult to anyone with rudimentary intelligence and critical thinking skills. I will produce Part 2 of this analysis in the coming days, which will showcase why their “irrefutable evidence” is so obviously fake. This thread will focus solely on showing why it wouldn’t have absolved them of the charges even if it had worked… 🧵

Just go fucking vote. And get ten of your family and friends to vote. trump and GOP are going to try to suppress your vote. Find a way around it and overcome the obstacles they put before you. That’s how you stick it to the man. That’s how America wins. November is coming.
North Carolina A&T students marched an hour each way to vote on the first day of early voting after their campus polling site was removed by the Guilford County Elections Board. Proud 👏🏽

On the facts, it’s a binary matter. Either Man City’s defence is the truth or the Abu Dhabi Govt is full of liars, willing to commit fraud, forgery and other crimes. The City side thought the Commission and/or Appeal Board wouldn’t have the stones to call the AD Govt criminals. But for the Commission and/or Appeal Board to decide the City defence as truth, they would have to make unreasonable findings of fact. That’s because Man City’s defence: 1) Is materially different from the one they used at CAS; 2) Factually disagrees with their prior sworn statements to Uefa and CAS; 3) Conflicts with the leaked email evidence, which City tried to explain away as “false assumptions” which is a ridiculous, impossible to believe explanation. When I started posting about this matter 2.5 years ago I did not think Man City or its legal team would try and defend the facts with perjury and forgeries at the Independent Commission, like they had done at CAS. There was too much evidence to catch them out. It was too brazen. Too self-destructive. Boy was I wrong. And for anyone who thinks the Commission’s decision was reputationally damaging for Abu Dhabi… the Appeal Board’s will be 100x worse. It will be relationship-ending because a former appellate judge won’t hold back the way a KC would. Get the popcorn ready. 🍿
New detail of Man City’s ‘irrefutable evidence’ claim as they look to overturn verdict *Contemporaneous bank statements, government records and receipts they see as confirming the Abu Dhabi government as the source of funds for financing of deals *More recent evidence from the Abu Dhabi government which stands by the accuracy of the original records *What they see as fundamental inconsistencies in the findings describing the government-funded explanation as “concocted” telegraph.co.uk/football/202…

Just so you understand the scale of betrayal: first, our "partners" didn't warn Ukraine about the incoming ballistic missiles, so the air raid alert wasn't activated before impact, robbing people of their chance to survive. Then, Starlink was restricted to stop working at speeds above 100 mph. This renders useless, first and foremost, our interceptor drones. It doesn't limit our ability to attack inside Russia, it limits our ability to stop another apartment building or school full of civilians from being hit. Wow, just wow.

This is scarcely believable. A very clear example of where Trump/Musk allegiances lie. What an absolutely fucked-up world order.
Keep in mind that Musk cutting off Starlink to Ukrainian Forces doesn't affect Ukraine's strikes on Russian territory, as it's already blocked there. This is Musk purely attempting to limit Ukraine's strikes on Russians INSIDE Ukraine. Any European governments using Starlink need to understand that the pro-Russian owner of Starlink will cut your defenses at any time if the price is right.

Last night, SpaceX abruptly restricted the military Starlink service Ukraine has built critical battlefield systems around, without warning. Ukrainian commanders say missions failed as a result. Whether Musk acted at the Trump administration’s request is not yet proven. But given Trump’s record, it would hardly be surprising if Washington had pushed for it. Look at the pattern. At some point, pretending each new concession to Moscow is an isolated event becomes less credible than acknowledging what is in front of us. The larger lesson is already clear. Europe cannot build its defence around critical infrastructure that can be altered overnight by a private American company, especially when European and American interests may no longer align. There is a line often attributed to Churchill that Americans can always be counted on to do the right thing, once they have exhausted every alternative. Churchill was wrong. Sometimes they exhaust every alternative and still fail to do the right thing. Europe can no longer base its security on the assumption that Washington will eventually come around. Whatever the motive behind this decision, Europe now needs its own redundant communications networks, satellite capacity and military infrastructure that cannot simply be switched off from the United States.
