We’re excited to share cryo-TomoSim (aka CTS), our #cryoET modeling and simulation software, in addition to our new preprint documenting its use in training regressive denoising and semantic segmentation U-Nets.

Turning the dials on our new Hydra pFIB for the first time today. Can't wait to get some cells into it, soon! Been freezing things down like mad for the past couple of weeks.

Ok...now that's pretty cool. Nice work everyone!
Excited to share our new preprint "Dynamic nanoscale architecture of synaptic vesicle fusion in mouse hippocampal neurons" biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…
We combine optogenetic stimulation of neurons with in situ cryo-ET to characterize membrane dynamics during vesicle fusion ❄️🔬⏱️
This delivery marks the dawn of a new era for cryo-ET at the Penn State College of Medicine. What should we mill into first?
This was an awesome workshop. I'm lucky to have been a part of it. Hope to get an invite next year!
Great #cryoET #cryoFIB #sub-tomo workshop @UWBiochem #cryoEM centers! New #teamtomo trainees ready, set, go! Thanks speakers, trainers, staff, sponsors. @NIH_CommonFund #cryoEM @delmicbv @SubangstromLLC @LeicaMicro @thermosciEMSpec

If you are interested in joining my group to study how microtubule motors select their cargos (or vice versa) then please see the two adverts below. One is based on neuronal cell biology, the other on reconstitution and cryoEM.

The "final form" of this beautiful paper is out in @NatureComms now! Hugely honored to be part of this with @_manasi_iyer_ and @ZucheroLab
Particularly proud of the 3D serial section EM of myelin.
Paper: link.springer.com/article/10…
What controls the morphology of #myelin sheaths to enable them to fine-tune conduction velocity? TL;DR: Calcium (Ca2+) signaling; a.k.a. nature’s ultimate multitasker! Read our new pre-print to find out more, led by grad student @_manasi_iyer_! 🧵👇(1/n)
Wish I could be there!
Come chat with me tomorrow about deep learning segmentation for large scale analysis of cryo et and volume em data!! 1:45pm, board B4. #cellbio2023
Highly recommended.
❤️🔬 Have a love for #microscopes? Interested in #neuroscience, #cryoEM, #teamtomo, & #cryoFIB? Our lab @UWBiochem has openings for #students, #postdocs,& #staff! Reach out to @erwright73 with questions! Beauty shots of 🪰 #neurons by @jykim35! ❄️🦡

Congrats to our two new #Humboldtians @AvHStiftung Laura Posada from @PeterChemBio1 lab & Ryan Hylton from @Intein lab! They have received the prestigious Humboldt Research Fellowship
Penn State is hiring a senior cryo-EM faculty member. Single Particle or Tomography. The campus is beautiful and the cryo-EM facility is full of amazing instrumentation.
Think about it. Or mention it to a friend.

We're all excited for you Jess! It's been awesome while it lasted, but you're off to bigger and better things. Can't wait to see where the future takes you!
Excited for the next step! Happy to say I'm joining @AbhayKot 's team and I'll be segmenting, possibly literally, all the things for the foreseeable future! I can honestly say I had an incredible PhD experience with @SwuliusLab and I can't wait to see their awesome future!
Amazing stuff going on just one floor down from my lab! Beautiful work everyone.
Proudly present "Developmental Mouse Brain Common Coordinate Framework" as a multimodal 3D atlas for developing mouse brains to neuroscience community. biorxiv.org/cgi/content/shor…. .
This work would not have been possible with out the talented Nathan Jentink, Carson Purnell, and Brianna Kable (all seemingly twitterless). And, of course, the great Sergei Grigoryev who has graciously guided us into the world of chromatin structure. What a fascinating topic!
Scientists find that in native human chromatin, nucleosomes stack non-uniformly and histone citrullination causes partial chromatin unfolding. Previous studies in reconstituted systems had shown uniform stacking and complete unfolding. #cryoET @SwuliusLab ow.ly/ENag50PKmGB
