The week of March 6–12, 2025, witnessed a coordinated and catastrophic assault on #Alawite communities across Syria's Mediterranean coast. Attackers descended on at least 56 villages throughout the #Latakia and #Tartous countryside. These massacres were supported and directed by the jihadist de facto authority led by Ahmad al-Shar’a (Abu Muhammad al-Julani). The assault involved Islamist factions, including al-Hamzat, al-Amshat, pro-Turkish #Syrian National Army factions, and foreign fighters operating under the broader Military Operations Command (MOC) linked to #HTS. The attacks were marked by the mass execution of men, the kidnapping of women, widespread looting, the burning of homes and agricultural land, and the destruction of Alawite religious sites. In the village of Brabshbu, all males were reportedly executed. Similar massacres were documented in Snobar, Jableh, and numerous other communities across the coast. The Syrian Network for Human Rights documented at least 1,662 deaths during this period, including 1,217 people killed by forces linked to the new authorities and 445 by Assad-regime remnants. Other estimates place the Alawite civilian death toll substantially higher. Thousands fled their homes, and many sought refuge in neighboring Lebanon. The Alawite Islamic Council publicly attributed responsibility for the violence to the authorities, while Christian Solidarity International issued a Genocide Warning on March 12, 2025. What occurred in March 2025 was not the chaos of political transition. It was organized, ideologically driven mass violence against civilians targeted because of their religious identity. The perpetrators arrived in organized convoys, announced their intentions "jihad", and carried out killings village by village. The massacres of March 2025 did not end in March. The killings, enforced disappearances, kidnappings, forced displacement, property seizures, sectarian incitement, and attacks on civilians continue. What began on the Syrian coast has become a slow-moving genocide against the Alawite community. The absence of accountability, an independent international investigation, and meaningful international action has allowed these crimes to continue while thousands remain missing and countless families remain displaced. #MARCH7TH #March7 #AlawiteGenocide #HumanRights #ReligiousFreedom #EthnicCleansing #ReligiousPersecution #IslamistTerrorism #JihadistViolence @IFCoalition @DrCharlesJacobs

His family is still waiting 💔
This is Hamza Ibrahim Al-Sarem, a 12-year-old #Alawite child from a poor family in rural #Hama. He disappeared 14 days ago after leaving his village to sell wild herbs and help support his family. Since then, there has been no information about his fate. His parents continue to publicly plead for help finding their son. But Hamza's case is not an isolated incident. Many #Alawites fear for their safety amid ongoing reports of killings, kidnappings, enforced disappearances, arbitrary arrests, sectarian incitement, and discrimination targeting minority communities in #Syria. There are also persistent of women being abducted, families being displaced, and communities being denied basic security and equal rights. What makes Hamza's disappearance especially alarming is the environment in which it occurred. Across social media and through some religious and political voices, Alawites have been publicly portrayed as "infidels" and subjected to campaigns calling for their exclusion, boycott, and removal from public life. Slogans such as "Leave — you are not a tree" have been used to pressure minorities to abandon their homes and communities. What is taking place is not simply discrimination, but a systematic campaign of fear, dispossession, and forced demographic change aimed at removing Alawite communities from Syria. Whether one agrees with that assessment or not, no child should disappear without answers. The world should know Hamza's name and ask one simple question: Where is Hamza Ibrahim Al-Sarem? #HumanRights #ReligiousFreedom #EthnicCleansing #ReligiousPersecution #IslamistTerrorism #JihadistViolence #Alawism #StopAntiAlawism @IFCoalition @DrCharlesJacobs @amnesty @hrw @CrisisGroup @genocide_watch @MinorityRights @USCIRF @freedomhouse @SyJusticeArc @syriahr

December 8, 2024: Dictator Bashar al-Assad fell, but freedom did not follow. Instead, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a jihadist organization with roots in al-Qaeda, seized power under Abu Mohammad al-Julani, now known as Ahmad al-Sharaa. For the Alawite people, this shift in power marked the beginning of a new chapter of persecution, fear, and a struggle for survival. #Alawites #Syria #HTS #AlawiteGenocide #StopAntiAlawism #WeAreAlawites #ReligiousFreedom #ReligiousPersecution #HumanRights @DrCharlesJacobs @IFCoalition

The Syrian Government says there was “no prior coordination” with Jordan over the series of deadly airstrikes in the Daraa countryside. Damascus says it is investigating “all the circumstances of this targeting,” and maintaining communication and coordination with Jordan.
Jordanian airstrikes in the Daraa countryside in southwest Syria killed five people from the same family, including women and children, according to Syrian media. State media confirmed Jordanian strikes targeted the villages of Nassib and Muzayrib, near the border with Jordan.

#Update | Nearly 20 Cars Belonging to Displaced Kurdish Families Smashed and Burned in Tal Abyad Amid "Allahu Akbar" Chants, Under the Watch of HTS-led General Security Militias #Raqqa Countryside | Tal Abyad City (Girê Spî): Individuals among the displaced mobs occupying Kurdish homes in the city of Tal Abyad smashed and set fire to roughly 20 cars belonging to displaced Kurds, pelting them with stones and sticks, amid gunfire and chants of "Allahu Akbar," all under the watch of the #HTS-led General Security militias. According to sources, the assault took place as dozens of displaced Kurds arrived at the Tal Abyad district administration building to submit documents proving ownership of their land and properties in the city and its countryside, in preparation for reclaiming them, amid threats against some of the returnees and an almost complete absence of any security intervention to stop the attacks. Kurdish channel Rudaw reported that dozens of Kurds remain trapped inside one of the buildings, with no confirmed information about their situation available so far.
🚨#NothernSyria | #Raqqa:Displaced Kurdish families attacked while trying to return to their homes in Tal Abyad (Gire Spi) On Monday, 26 October 2026, displaced Kurdish families were attacked by large crowds in the city of Tal Abyad (Girê Spî) , northern Raqqa countryside, as they tried to return to their homes and villages after years of displacement. Their cars were smashed and some were set on fire, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights and circulating video footage. According to a private source cited by Rudaw, around 100 Kurdish returnees, including women and children, are besieged inside the Area Administration building in Tal Abyad, and their fate remains unknown. This coincided with a gathering in front of the Tal Abyad area command rejecting what protesters described as the return of members of the dissolved SDF to the city. It is worth noting that thousands of Kurdish families were displaced from Tal Abyad and Ras al-Ain following the 2019 Turkish military operation, and many still face obstacles to returning and recovering their property.

Statement Issued by the Western Syria Alliance Regarding the Forced Alteration of Educational Curricula and its Impact on Cultural Diversity and Children's Rights. #WesternSyriaAlliance #WesternSyria #WSA
Statement Issued by the Western Syria Alliance Regarding the Forced Alteration of Educational Curricula and its Impact on Cultural Diversity and Children's Rights The radical and forced modifications made by the jihadi de facto regime in Syria to the educational and school curricula do not represent an ordinary event or a passing administrative measure. Rather, it is a systematic targeting of the fabric of Syrian society and its cultural and historical diversity, as well as an attempt to raise new generations on a monolithic, fanatical ideology. Accordingly, we in the Western Syria Alliance (WSA) emphasize the following human rights and political points: First: Imposition of Cultural Monolithism and Intellectual Terrorism: The imposition of these curricula leads to melting the religious and cultural diversity of the Syrian people into a single mold wrapped in extremism. This constitutes a literal practice of intellectual terrorism that isolates children from the values of tolerance, driving them toward insularity, innate bigotry, and social intolerance within the school environment. Second: Systematic Targeting of Identity and History (Sectarian Exclusion): The deliberate erasure of the honorable history of resistance specific to the Alawite community and other Syrian components represents a process of "cultural and historical erasure and exclusion." It seeks to obliterate the collective national memory by canceling the identities of authentic components of the Syrian fabric, an action that is condemned and rejected in its entirety. Third: Justification of Violations and Catastrophic Responses: What is even more dangerous than the processes of erasure, modification, and forcing female students to adhere to extremist dress codes is the official stance issued by the so-called "Ministry of Education" of the de facto authority. Its response to constructive criticism was filled with contradictions and fallacies, proving that this institution has transformed into a tool for enforced ignorance, the falsification of facts, and the entrenchment of gender discrimination against women and children. Fourth: Manufacturing Extremism and Isolating Children from the World: We express our deep astonishment and strong condemnation of the voices defending these catastrophic changes under the pretext of serving the public interest. These curricula rob children of their freedom of thought and belief, and raise them with a narrow, inferior view of women as marginal elements or strangers to society, completely isolating Syrian childhood from the path of civilization and modernity. Fifth: Militarization and Distortion of the Child Community: Al-Julani's authority did not stop at establishing special camps for children, similar to what are known as "Ashbal al-Ummah" (Cubs of the Nation) or products of extremist thought, but went beyond that to begin a systematic and comprehensive transformation of the Syrian childhood environment into an extremist environment that violates the International Convention on the Rights of the Child. We in the West Syria Alliance urgently submit this statement to the United Nations, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), children's and women's rights associations, and all international human rights organizations. We call for immediate intervention and pressure to halt the process of enforced ignorance and cultural erasure targeting the children of Syria, and to protect their right to a neutral, pluralistic education that guarantees social peace. Statement Calling for an Investigation into the Assassination of Alawite Young Man Ali Aqel in Lebanon FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE | October 26, 2026 Western Syria Alliance Calls for Independent Investigation into the Death of Alawite Syrian Ali Aqel in Lebanon and Urgent Protection for Alawite Refugees Against Cross-Border Targeting The Western Syria Alliance (WSA) expresses its deep concern over reports regarding the death of a young Syrian man, Ali Allawi Aqel (36 years old), from the Alawite community and the Ghab Plain region, under mysterious circumstances within Lebanese territory, amid circulating information that his body was found inside his car and transferred to the Baabda Governmental Hospital. The severity of this incident is compounded by reports indicating that, prior to his death, the victim was subjected to online incitement and threat campaigns from accounts and figures allegedly linked to the authorities in Damascus, due to his religious affiliation and his previous compulsory military service. The Alliance emphasizes the necessity of investigating this information and determining whether there is any link between the alleged threats and his death, without preempting the results of the investigation. This incident comes in the context of growing concerns over the safety of Alawite refugees who fled from Syria to Lebanon, particularly following the sectarian violence and massacres witnessed in the Syrian coastal regions in March 2025, and the subsequent religious persecution, systematic killings, kidnappings, forced displacement, and arbitrary dismissal from jobs. The increasing incidents of kidnapping Alawites from Lebanese territory and smuggling them across the border into Syria using diplomatic vehicles turns the Syrian embassy into a security branch operating illegally on Lebanese soil. We consider this a formal report that we place before the Lebanese authorities to investigate and halt. Belonging to the Alawite community or having previously performed compulsory military service do not constitute a justification for threats, persecution, or deprivation of legal protection. Furthermore, Lebanese territory must not be used to carry out acts of retaliation or illegal transnational security operations. Accordingly, the Western Syria Alliance demands the following: 1. The Lebanese Authorities: Open an immediate, transparent, and independent criminal investigation into the circumstances of Ali Aqel's death, verify the previous threats reported, determine responsibilities, and hold any involved parties accountable in accordance with the law. 2. The Lebanese Army and Security Forces: Take urgent preventive measures to protect Alawite refugees and other vulnerable refugees, and investigate any credible allegations related to kidnapping, threats, or illegal security operations within Lebanese territory. 3. The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR): Strengthen monitoring and protection mechanisms, document threats and violations faced by Alawite refugees, and ensure that victims and their families have access to reporting mechanisms and legal assistance. 4. The International Community: Support Lebanon in protecting refugees and safeguarding its sovereignty, promote accountability for transnational violations, and ensure respect for the principle of non-refoulement. The Alliance asserts that the protection of refugees is a legal and humanitarian responsibility that must not be subjected to sectarian or political considerations, and that any attempt to target individuals because of their religious identity or compulsory military service warrants investigation and accountability. The death of Ali Aqel demands the disclosure of truth, not speculation or cover-ups. The security of Alawite refugees in Lebanon, like that of all refugees, must be safeguarded by law. WESTERN SYRIA ALLIANCE (WSA) October 26, 2026 We will not accept the transformation of terrorism into a system of governance. #AliAqel #Alawites #Lebanon #HumanRights #WesternSyriaAlliance #WesternSyria #WSA @IFCoalition @mofalebanon1 @LebarmyOfficial @LebISF @DGSGLB @LebanonDefense @LebEmbassyUS @UN_Lebanon @UNHCRLebanon @OHCHR_MENA @UNICBeirut @UNarabic @Lisa_ak

In Syria today… Alawite women and girls are being abducted, targeted because of their identity. Girls and women reportedly ranging in age from 3 to 40. Children. Schoolgirls. Young women. Mothers. Taken from streets in broad daylight. Seized from their homes. Torn away from their families and children. Reports, testimonies, and investigations by international and Syrian human-rights actors have documented deeply disturbing allegations surrounding these abductions: Torture. Severe beatings. Heads and eyebrows forcibly shaved. Cuts inflicted with blades. Sexual violence. Forced marriage. Ransom and extortion. Some survivors have reportedly returned pregnant after their captivity. These cases cannot simply be dismissed as isolated disappearances. When women and girls from the same religious community are repeatedly targeted, abducted, abused, and terrorized, the world has an obligation to investigate whether a broader pattern of identity-based and sectarian persecution is taking place. Impunity only enables further abuse. We are not asking for pity. We demand justice. We demand an independent and transparent international investigation. We demand accountability for every perpetrator, accomplice, and official who enabled or concealed these crimes. We demand protection for survivors, witnesses, and their families. We demand answers for the women and girls who remain missing. And we demand that this nightmare end. Their voices will not be erased. Their lives are not expendable. Their dignity is not negotiable. #AlawiteWomen #FreeAlawiteWomen #SaveTheAlawites #StopAntiAlawism #EndSectarianViolence #EndImpunity #JusticeForSurvivors #WomensRights #HumanRights #ReligiousFreedom #Syria #WSA #IFC
