This 10 second video sums up the scenes I have encountered on a regular basis on Pittsburgh's Ohio River in the past 4+ years. 107 plastic bottles removed today stuffed into 3 bags + a floating tire with a rim & a styrofoam pumpkin. 56 pounds of trash paddled out in total. As for the collection of trash in the video, that wasn't even 1 full bags worth right there. I've removed 847 bags from this river in the past 4+ years which maybe gives you a sense of just how abused this river is and the damage we are inflicting on our waterways. – at Pittsburgh, PA

This weeks Steelers 'Ohio River gameball' goes to... #41 Payton Wilson!! A HUGE Interception in the 3rd quarter & 6 tackles on the day. A great team defensive performance! 3 in a row, 5-2, #HereWeGo 👏

There needs to be zero tolerance in permitting encampments to setup directly along our waterways. This is the damage sitting in Pittsburgh's Ohio River mud after tents lined this section the past few years. There's probably about 100 yards worth of shoreline between the Rivers Casino & West End bridge that looks like this. @CoreyOConnorPA @GovernorShapiro @SenFettermanPA @SenMcCormickPA – at Pittsburgh, PA

*It definitely wasn't the 'cleanest' performance yesterday by my Pittsburgh Steelers, but a win is a win! *and I did receive one rather ironic🙄 'Thank you' during todays river cleanup. *Also, might've found another vintage bottle, but no # markings on the bottom to identify it, just what appear to be small raised bubbles🤔🤷‍♂️

65 pounds of trash paddled out of Pittsburgh's Ohio River today including 3 bags, 104 plastic bottles, a lid to a grill, a cooler, and a boat bumper, cleaning up 50 yards of shoreline. That's 90 bags of trash removed from this river in the past 5 months of work. – at Pittsburgh, PA

In addition to tires, boat clubs are also responsible for countless barrels sitting all over Pittsburgh's 3 Rivers. There are probably 40-50 of them just on the 2 mile section of the Ohio River that I cleanup. The barrels are used underneath wooden boat docks to keep them afloat, they break free & become part of the landscape. Another practice that we need to rethink? @GovernorShapiro @SenFettermanPA @SenMcCormickPA @PennsylvaniaDEP – at Pittsburgh, PA
Hundreds of tires are stuck in the Ohio River mud on the 2 mile section I cleanup because boat clubs use old tires on the side of their docks. They either fall off eventually, or docks get damaged during floods & the tires become part of the river as a result. Tires are extremely toxic, surely boat owners & clubs can use something less environmentally destructive than tires on the side of their docks? We need to make this practice unlawful in Pennsylvania @GovernorShapiro @SenFettermanPA @SenMcCormickPA @PennsylvaniaDEP

75 pounds of trash paddled out of Pittsburgh's Ohio River today including another tire with a rim, a floatie with a fin, 2 bags, 76 plastic bottles & some random junk. The feel good story of the day... was cleaning up the shoreline, the 'Law Enforcement' boat comes zooming downriver, saw me & made a hard left towards me(I'm like uh oh😂), officer gets out and yells 'Thank you' with a thumbs up👍. So nice, really appreciated it! Now...speed boats create a lot of wave action which is a problem for me & why I conduct most of my cleanups on weekday mornings(to avoid them). My kayak was half packed up & here come all these waves...tried to brace my kayak(while standing outside of it) for the onslaught of water approaching. Waves dumped water all in my kayak🤦‍♂️😂. Fortunately I carry a towel & spent the next 10 minutes soaking up all the water in my kayak & ringing it out. It was all good, I really appreciated the Thank you!👍😁 – at Pittsburgh, PA

The Night'Mairdale Ave' horror show continues... Reported it to the City of @Pittsburgh, fines need to be imposed on this repeat offender homeowner @CoreyOConnorPA . Reported this issue in 2025 & the City clearly confronted them because the situation drastically improved late last year, but here we are again. Their unsecured trash is running down the street, heavy rains will usher it into our storm drains and ultimately to the Ohio River. – at Pittsburgh, PA
Finally, good news to report regarding Pittsburgh's Mairdale Ave... After months of driving past this mess and reporting it to the City, clearly someone has confronted this homeowner. See something, say something. Thank you @Pittsburgh!

Hey @TJRPitt: Me and @WillGravesAP made a stop at Prison Cat Cove, watching a tire float by on the Ohio and wishing you were here. Sorry we missed you this time. Thanks for all you do!

"1936"! The oldest glass bottle I've ever found while cleaning up Pittsburgh's Ohio River. Amazing condition for a 90 year old bottle...found today just laying on the shoreline. – at Pittsburgh, PA

72 pounds of trash today makes it over 3,000 pounds paddled out of Pittsburgh's Ohio River since mid-May. I was rewarded with an adirondack chair, my 5th in the past 4+ years I've taken home for re-use. Also, used my kayak as a Towboat to push this tire with a rim to shore. 44 plastic bottles included in the 2 bags of trash removed. – at Pittsburgh, PA

The find of the day was this "J.R. Ewing's Private Stock" vintage beer can. Love the quote on the can..."If you have to ask how much my beer costs, you probably can't afford it"😂 I used to watch the show "Dallas" as a kid, this is a real blast from the past!🤠 – at Pittsburgh, PA

Collected plastic bottle #5,000 in 2026. 2 bags of litter & 64 plastic bottles removed today cleaning up 5 storm drain covers & the surrounding area. The silver lining...these drains are sealed tight to the curb(as opposed to some of the wide open drains that exist) which prevents some of the big stuff from flowing directly down the drain & into the Ohio River. If all drains in Pittsburgh were designed like these we'd have significantly less trash sitting in our 3 Rivers. – at Pittsburgh, PA

Dug 4 perfectly intact vintage glass bottles out of the Pine Creek mud today. A Canada Dry, Kohlmann's Chocolate & two other unreadable labels + a partially broken vintage Pepsi & Barqs bottle. It hasn't rained here in a week or so which made the visibility crystal clear & perfect for digging up treasures. Gonna clean them up. Also removed a bucket full of more typical trash. I've found probably 40-50 vintage bottles in this creek the past couple years, always a lot of fun searching🧐 for them! – at Pittsburgh, PA
