An Executive Committee meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, August 24th about Toronto's dire financial situation💸💸💸
This is an opportunity for @MayorOliviaChow to move ahead with her promise to implement a commercial levy to fund transit and reverse #TTC cuts! 1/4
We asked Toronto mayoral candidates if they would reverse #TTC service cuts!
Here is a thread of their responses. 🧵

Huge congratulations for Dr Katie Dogantzis @KDogantzis for wining the Governor General’s Gold Medal for her thesis on Bee Population Genomics! What an achievement. Richly deserved!

Ok, I want to expand on this because it's important
Our Student Accommodations Services office is freakin' fantastic. I work closely with them. The conversations are inspiring and they help me be a better teacher
This is not on them in any way
This is on #HigherEd leaders 🧵

@yorkuniversity UIT It is NOT acceptable to have non-functional classroom computers/hookups, etc. AND instructor shouldn’t get a shoulder shrug that “it just doesn’t work with Macs”. B/c it’s not just Macs; PC laptops don’t work as well. Our students deserve better. FIX IT.

We've compiled a list of ways you can take action to protect abortion locally, nationally, and globally.⬇️
Abortion rights are human rights, for everyone, everywhere. We must take action to protect abortion locally, nationally, and globally. Here’s how: buff.ly/3u0AH5D

250+ mass shootings in the US alone, and a woman’s body is more regulated than a gun. get fucking real.

I was just asked to be on The National to discuss Roe and abortion...and then I found out it would be a panel with a "pro-life/anti-abortion" voice. I am livid and sent this reply. I couldn't care less if this means I will not be asked back to the CBC. It needed to be said.

Every #highered STEM educator should read this.
Recently I was telling STEM students they should seek out courses w/high classroom interaction, opps for practice, etc. rather than all lecture when someone nearby says “well, students need diff things.” chronicle.com/article/its-no…

Indigenous doctors were just asked by Alberta Health Services to “volunteer” to provide medical services for the Popes visit in Alberta. The Papal Bull “The Doctrine of Discovery” is the Vatican decree that is the basis for theft of Indigenous Lands, still used by Canada in /1

Check out this awesome collaboration with @AndreaDurant16 and Andrew Donini where we determine some of the effects of beet juice de-iced on osmoregulation in Hyallela azteca.

Equity, diversity, and inclusion in research cannot have a shelf life. We have centuries of colonialism, slavery, and patriarchy to undo. We cannot afford to go backward.
Just finished advising appt w fantastic Ss who can't afford to finish degree. Catch-22: b/c owes uni $$$, she's now part-time; student visa means she can't work (on/off campus) to earn $ to pay debt. 1/x
This is so frustrating to see Ss encounter these barriers after overcoming so much. Trying to figure out how to help her (I offered to hire her, but see above not possible 😡). In the meantime, she's got a go-fund me page. gofundme.com/f/dannys-degree
