An Executive Committee meeting has been scheduled for Thursday, August 24th about Toronto's dire financial situation💸💸💸 This is an opportunity for @MayorOliviaChow to move ahead with her promise to implement a commercial levy to fund transit and reverse #TTC cuts! 1/4
We asked Toronto mayoral candidates if they would reverse #TTC service cuts! Here is a thread of their responses. 🧵 Olivia Chow:

We've compiled a list of ways you can take action to protect abortion locally, nationally, and globally.⬇️
Abortion rights are human rights, for everyone, everywhere. We must take action to protect abortion locally, nationally, and globally. Here’s how: buff.ly/3u0AH5D

250+ mass shootings in the US alone, and a woman’s body is more regulated than a gun. get fucking real.

I was just asked to be on The National to discuss Roe and abortion...and then I found out it would be a panel with a "pro-life/anti-abortion" voice. I am livid and sent this reply. I couldn't care less if this means I will not be asked back to the CBC. It needed to be said.

Every #highered STEM educator should read this. Recently I was telling STEM students they should seek out courses w/high classroom interaction, opps for practice, etc. rather than all lecture when someone nearby says “well, students need diff things.” chronicle.com/article/its-no…

Indigenous doctors were just asked by Alberta Health Services to “volunteer” to provide medical services for the Popes visit in Alberta. The Papal Bull “The Doctrine of Discovery” is the Vatican decree that is the basis for theft of Indigenous Lands, still used by Canada in /1

Equity, diversity, and inclusion in research cannot have a shelf life. We have centuries of colonialism, slavery, and patriarchy to undo. We cannot afford to go backward.

We all want to get back to the classrooms, but at the moment it’s difficult. We have more questions than answers, and more concerns than solutions. Our “vibrant” community is somewhat subdued at the moment. (4/4)

If students use this space to attend #remote classes, study, do group work… with 50% capacity, today there is a 99% chance that someone among them is transmitting #COVID19 At 30% capacity, it’s 95%. #HigherEd #CdnPSE
We have spaces at the library - group study rooms are available to be booked for individual study. Students are also welcome to use our group study floors to participate in remote learning. More info: lib.uoguelph.ca/using-librar…

A plan that you can count on that will protect learning. That's #HigherEd leadership. All plans don't have to be this, of course. What is most important is that it is resilient to the uncertainty that we face. It prioritises the needs of students and ensure access to learning.

The Chair of my Department, based on consensus in a departmental meeting, made the call back in May to offer all courses online for the upcoming semester, and to review by December 1st whether in-person instruction could resume in January. Collegial decision-making in action.

I appreciate that our faculty association, @YUFAyorku, is taking both (1) expertise and (2) collegial governance into account on this statement on teaching modes at York University. It shouldn't just be YUFA. We should hear this from all department chairs, deans & upper admin.

I stand in solidarity w the other (mostly equity-seeking) researchers who have been belittled, doubted, accused of being emotional, by @uofg leadership I remain dedicated to being motivated only to provide evidence-based & empathy-driven approaches to ensuring #HigherEd learning

1/4 New modelling. We need to accelerate vaccine a lot. We’re plateauing at about 76% of eligible Ontarians, but we now need to get above 85% of eligible Ontarians -- and even there, vacc isn’t enough vs Delta. covid19-sciencetable.ca/scie… #COVID19ON
