Prashant Jain — The bank he couldn't buy (so he bought the sector) In 2007, Prashant Jain spotted an absurdity: HDFC Bank — India's finest lender — was valued about the same as leading NBFCs. Either the bank was wildly undervalued, or he was missing something. There was a catch. He worked at HDFC. He wasn't allowed to buy HDFC Bank stock himself. So he did the next best thing: he bought banks. Heavily. "India is a savers economy," he reasoned. "Banks can never run out of fashion." Over three decades running HDFC AMC funds, Jain invested in 465 stocks and returned ₹87,000 crore in gains to investors. His most quoted line explains the discipline: "There is no one who will buy all the companies that go up. I have made more mistakes of omission than commission — and I'm happy about that." Takeaways for investors: • Hunt for valuation disparities between quality peers. When the best is priced like the rest, act. • Mistakes of omission (not buying) beat mistakes of commission (buying wrong). Capital preserved is capital compounded. • Stay inside your circle of competence — Jain skipped the 2007 realty boom simply because he didn't understand it. $482 billion. Gone in one day. Alphabet just had the worst day in its history, down 12.4%. Why? Search grew 12%. Analysts wanted 15%. Capex hit $51.4B in a single quarter. Free cash flow: negative $9.1B. And the bill keeps growing. $200B capex this year. $300B next year. Bears say AI answers are starting to hurt search. Cloud grew 103%. Investors still ran.

Meal coupons just got a big tax upgrade. From 1 April 2026, employer-provided meal coupons are tax-free up to ₹200 per meal. Earlier limit: ₹50. That's up to ₹1.05 lakh a year (2 meals × 22 days). Now available under the new regime too. In the 30% slab, that can save you around ₹32,000 in tax. Ask your HR to restructure your salary.

Jio was fast. Reliance Power was faster. Time taken for big IPOs to get fully subscribed: Reliance Power (2008): within 1 minute Jio Platforms (2026): about 100 minutes LG Electronics (2025): by end of Day 1 LIC (2022): Day 2 Hyundai Motor (2024): Day 3 18 years on, the 1-minute record still stands. Not investment advice.

₹35 crore allegedly went missing from bank accounts and FDs at a Punjab National Bank branch in Greater Noida. Customers say: They never authorised the transactions. They never received a single alert. They never signed any document. One customer said, "I had ₹39 lakh... but now nothing is showing in it." The branch manager and several bank employees have been suspended. Police have launched an investigation. Save this: check your FD status directly with the bank, not just through SMS alerts.

Why lock money in FDs at ~6-7%? These PSU giants pay similar dividend yields: HPCL: 7.15% Coal India: 6.68% IOCL: 6.39% REC: 6.32% BPCL: 6.09% FD: fixed interest, taxed at your slab. Stocks: similar yield + chance of capital appreciation.

Gandla Mulaiah, 58, ran his own business in Nandyal. He bought a ₹50 lakh personal accident policy from ICICI Lombard. Premium: ₹14,445 a year. Cover: June 2025 to June 2028. Then a road accident took his life. His nominee filed the claim. The claim got stuck. ICICI Lombard kept asking for more documents. Then it rejected the claim, saying mandatory documents were not submitted. The family went to Kurnool Consumer Commission. The Commission called the rejection arbitrary and unreasonable. It held that ICICI Lombard can't bring in new conditions after the claim is filed. It also recognised the mental agony the nominee suffered. Order: ICICI Lombard (Mumbai head office and Kurnool branch, jointly) must pay the full ₹50 lakh. He paid every premium. His family still had to fight in court to get the cover.

🚨 ISRAEL JUST BROKE ITS OWN POLITICS 🚨 Netanyahu's bloc: 53 seats Eisenkot's bloc: 48 seats Arab parties: a record 19 seats Majority needed: 61 Nobody has it. Likud is down 6 seats. Eisenkot's brand-new party is already at 21. Roughly 450,000 absentee ballots are still uncounted. Kingmakers? The Arab parties. Deadlock, a unity government, or a 6th election in 7 years?

Divakar Reddy Yellala paid a premium of ₹4,767. ICICI Lombard promised ₹50 lakh. Then he died in a road accident. FIR. Post-mortem. Cause of death: head injury. ICICI Lombard rejected the claim, alleging misrepresentation of facts. His brother, Yellala Jagadeeshawara Reddy, the nominee, took them to consumer court. Kurnool Consumer Commission: Pay the full ₹50 lakh. Save this — a rejection email is not the final word.
