The 301 China tariffs were put in place by Trump. Prior to the Biden change you noted, Trump had instituted a tariff on battery materials/minerals of ~25% but finished battery packs were tariffed at ~8%. Obviously this was truly moronic and hurt anyone making batteries in America (Tesla/Pana) and incentivized battery imports from China rather than value-added jobs and investment in America. With the IRA, Dems decided to pay for the national security and industrial policy of building more batteries and supply chain for those batteries in the US, put in place difficult sourcing requirements that also helped battery manufacturers (like Tesla!) in the US, while simultaneously fixing the Trump irrationality of the 301 tariff between finished packs/raw materials. Trump has vaguely pledged much higher tariffs on Chinese goods, and also wants to remove all the carrots in the IRA that help manufacturers in the US.

At this point you’re just pushing out misinformation, @wholemars. There is 1 PHEV (Pacifica) that qualifies for the full consumer incentive and hardly anyone buys it. If you ask anyone in the sales department at Tesla whether they want the $7,500 consumer incentive they will say… “obviously”. During the Trump admin, there was an active effort to undermine pretty much every substantive policy that helped Tesla’s energy and vehicle and charging business. Did you think Trump’s SEC chairman was correct in taking away Elon’s first amendment rights (those were E’s arguments in court).

This is utter nonsense, @wholemars. I’ve gone into this extensively in previous posts, so won’t repeat myself over and over. I don’t think I ever felt like anyone wanted to “destroy Tesla as revenge”, even when I thought they were 100% wrong in their policy position. That stands in stark contrast to our engagement with Trump.
