Michael Johnson thinks track athletes should be better paid. Cue his global league, Grand Slam Track, which he hopes will revolutionize his sport. The Olympic great talks to @AdamCrafton_ about how the league will provide a platform for world-class athletes to demonstrate their talents regularly, "just like NFL players do, just like Premier League players do, just like Formula One drivers do." 🔗 bit.ly/4jyp3GS

In Kingston, under the lights of National Stadium, Grand Slam Track delivered what it promised: The best middle distance runners in the world on a big stage. Olympic gold medalist Cole Hocker. Olympic silver medalist Josh Kerr. Olympic bronze medalist Yared Nuguse. Olympic gold medalist Emmanuel Wanyonyi. Olympic silver medalist Marco Arop. On the first day, you had Wanyonyi and Arop stepping into Hocker, Nuguse and Kerr’s territory – untested and some thought unready. What unfolded was anything but predictable. Wanyonyi waited. Watched. Then, dismantled the field over the final 300 meters, clocking a blistering 38.37. Nuguse strained to hold form. Hocker surged late. Kerr faded. And just like that, Wanyonyi wasn’t the wildcard. He was the guy. But the story didn’t end there. A day later, Marco Arop—Canada’s 800m juggernaut—ran straight into the wind, took the lead, and never looked back. His 1:45.13 wasn’t about the time. It was about dominance. Wanyonyi, Hoppel, Hocker, Nuguse—they were all there. And none of them were close. Relive every move, every misstep, every moment where the race—and the narrative—turned. Because in this new league format with double-duty demands and no rabbits to bail them out, it’s every competitor for themselves. And for once, the questions feel bigger than who won. What’s next for the Americans? How does Josh Kerr come back from this? Is Arop unbeatable in a straight-up 800m fight? How will a new set of Challengers fare? It’s onto Miami.

Shattered to hear this news today. Peter was a lover of track & field and good books and boisterous pubs and great music and DyeStat in its early days and… he will be terribly missed. R.I.P. Peter Walsh. 👟
Peter Walsh, the heart & soul of Coogan’s, the greatest track-friendly bar/restaurant ever, passed away today after a long battle with cancer. R.I.P.
