Forget Michael Carrick and all the rest of it. Manchester United, now and for a while, are a consequence of the disgraceful moment in May 2005 that should never have been allowed to occur. Took two decades but the chickens are very much home and roosting

Exactly this. The owners have backed Alonso and given him what he wants. After 8 days, people want us to sack him and bring in someone else who won’t want the players Xavi brought in, we’ll have another group of players a manager doesn’t want, and then wait for a window where we try to reshape a team we just started reshaping. On line Chelsea fans have lost all common sense and patience.

More proof that while criticizing his baffling game plan + stubbornness against Spurs is completely valid, calling him a clueless manager who fluked his way through his career is just stupid.
I picked 4 random Leverkusen games from the 23/24 season & the one thing I don’t understand about Alonso’s current Chelsea team is his former team were completing a crazy amount of passes and touches in the oppo box. That was his philosophy so what changed?

I've been thinking since yesterday about why Alonso was so reluctant to build out from the back and instead wanted the team to play so directly. Obviously, I can't know his exact reasoning, but I think several factors might have influenced the decision. First, Penders. Perhaps Alonso didn't want to put him under too much pressure and preferred to have him play long rather than take risks in the build-up. Second, the weather. The heavy rain might also have played a part, with Alonso looking to minimise the risk of mistakes close to his own goal. Third, and perhaps most interestingly, the player profiles, particularly in midfield. I think most people expected Alonso to bring much more control in possession. So why have Chelsea been so much more direct than anticipated? The midfield profiles might offer part of the explanation. When Caicedo was unavailable, the team was extremely direct. Since his return, we've started to see a shift towards slower, more controlled build-up play. Perhaps Alonso doesn't fully trust the other midfield profiles to play this way under pressure. But if that's the case, why did Lavia spend the entire game on the bench? Whatever the reasoning, the approach didn't work against Spurs. Without Joao Pedro, Rogers was almost the only player up front capable of receiving and holding up long balls, but even he struggled badly. He lost all seven of his aerial duels, and many of Chelsea's long balls were simply inaccurate. Even when the ball reached the right areas, Spurs often collected the second balls.

The concept that players should just stand there and take abuse from people twice their age because they lost a game of football. People desperately need to grow up.

One day we're gonna win so much, you may even get tired of winning. And you'll say, please, please, it's too much winning. We can't take it anymore. Mr. Xabi, it's too much, and he will say no it isn't, we have to keep winning, we have to win more, we're gonna win more.

Manchester United are proof the Red Cartel doesn't exist. They cannot get anything right let alone be part of that - amidst what apparently is a conspiracy against the little underdog clubs. Unless a leading conspirator is truly this incompetent, I don't know what to tell you.

No one is blaming 3 ATB formation for our performance again. 😭😂 We played a back four and still collect. Some say he should have used Welbeck as the striker not rogers, like Welbeck didn’t play the position when we lost 3-0 against Brentford. As a manager just make sure you win, if not you will always see clueless fans act like they know best. 😂

No matter what, I trust Xabi Alonso 100%. Every game won't always go according to plan at this stage, but he will learn from every setback. I still have zero doubt about him being a successful at Chelsea.

Michael Carrick will doubtless pay the price with his job for this deserved defeat to an excellent Bournemouth side and another lifeless display by his Manchester United team. Some of his selections and tactics have been questionable, United were again so open in the centre. But Carrick was not responsible for recruiting Youri Tielemans, who lacks physicality and mobility (and Aston Villa haven’t missed him) and Andrey Santos, a Chelsea reserve.  Carrick was not responsible for the board’s damaging failure to strengthen at centre-back and left-back. Carrick was not responsible for his main striker Benjamin Sesko being injured and the board’s failure to provide him with cover. Carrick was not responsible for the club he loves being in the grip of co-owners like the Glazers whose priorities are focused more on business than the sport. The direction from the top has been negligible, arguably negligent. No real leadership. No expertise. Carrick may be out of his depth but many United fans sang his name during the painful demise to Bournemouth because they know he cares and they know the problems lie elsewhere. The Stretford End again sang in protest at the wretched Glazers. Noticeable that there were few songs in support of Bruno Fernandes. He is supposed to be captain, rallying the players, Footballer of the Year, Player of the Year, not arm-waver of the year, underachieving and complaining. Yet Bruno will be at United longer than Carrick.  Carrick was praised for United finishing third last season and getting in the Champions League. But he will doubtless go partly for his own failings and mainly the failings of others. And United will be trapped in this doom loop again. And again until the core problems are addressed in the boardroom - and the Glazers sell up - and flaws in the recruitment department. #MUFC #MUNBOU

Last weekend he was a managerial genius after beating Everton & keeping a clean sheet. One week later, people want him sacked. People need to calm down.

Too harsh a report? A breakdown on mistakes and saying a manager got everything wrong on the day? Maybe with a different fanbase, Kieran. We deal in Roman-porned brain caricatures of sack everyone, sell absolutely everyone bubble on here when facing adversity. You are safe.

Completely overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since my statement. As I continue my treatment and my recovery now know that I simply have to raise more awareness around mental health in the future Best part of 6 weeks before the UK Championships starts and all being well I’ll be in a better place by then but for now it’s just one day at a time Thanks again for all your support. It’s meant so so much to myself and my family

We could lose both the Liverpool and Man United games, and I'd still back Xabi. I've seen our rivals stand by their managers through much worse and eventually reap the rewards of their patience. We need to do the same.
Chelsea fans need to understand we finished 10th in the league last year & things won't change overnight & let me tell you this, we will LOSE more games but definitely win a lot more too. Support both high & lows. Stop yapping only when we win & be a glory hunter. UTC XABI IN

Just to add to this and address possible calls for Alonso's head. Chelsea were lucky he wanted to join. Even he, a manager you don't rate, wasn't too attracted to Chelsea. If we move on from another coach midseason, that pool (that was already small) gets even smaller.

The quotes Alonso had about the game being “even” in the second half are right in a certain context because Chelsea’s plan was working defensively for like 80 mins of the game. It was with the ball where they threw it away. xitter.cf/CFCDaily/status/211428…
