On June 3, 2024, @McNuttMonica challenged Stephen A. Smith to be real about his coverage and support of the WNBA on First Take. For Monica, it was as simple as calling “water wet.” But what followed proved this was about so much more than basketball.
After 40 minutes of debate, she could feel the physical toll of the moment. One conversation. One moment of standing on principle. And a fallout that would change how the media world saw her—and potentially alter a relationship with an important colleague.
Sometimes, the moments that define your career are the ones you never see coming.

“The only thing in our lives that is truly inevitable is change.” @McNuttMonica
The Emmy Award-winning analyst joins us for an unfiltered conversation about betting on yourself, breaking barriers, facing criticism, and refusing to shrink to make others comfortable.
From Georgetown to getting laid off and moving back home to becoming one of the most recognizable voices in sports media, Monica McNutt’s journey is proof that sometimes the setback IS the setup. 🎙️
In the midst of her meteoric rise, Monica shares how the infamous First Take moment that didn’t seem like anything is what actually changed everything, detailing the resilience it takes to keep going when life doesn’t go according to plan.
The joy and gratitude is shining through as Monica reflects on her journey, WNBA’s trajectory, Jalen Brunson’s respect, the moment of a lifetime calling @nyknicks Game 5 and doing what she loves in a city that has embraced her.
Because sometimes, the pivot is the whole point.

Translation: Shedeur closed the gap and had plenty of high-level reps, but when both QBs were at their absolute best, Deshaun’s ceiling was still higher.
Basically, Shedeur got close — Todd just felt Deshaun still had another gear that Shedeur hadn’t shown yet.
Hoops are in full swing, which means everyone has something to say 🏀And one voice of @WNBA and @NBA who’s gonna cut straight to the point, keep it real and give it to us straight, whether ya’ll love it or hate it is 🎙️@McNuttMonica

When Marques Colston lost his father, he lost more than a parent. He lost his idol, the man who helped shape the person he would become.
His father was a great man who lived by a code rooted in hard work, discipline, and the values he passed down to his son. But the day he passed away, the two had an argument.
Marques remembers the next morning in vivid detail. But even more than that moment, he remembers the lessons his father poured into him over 14 years. Lessons that outlived his father, shaped his character, and continue to guide the man he is today.

“There’s rules guys… There’s guideline guys”
@MarquesColston built a relationship rooted in trust with Hall of Famer @drewbrees. He had to know where to be, how to get there, and when to be there… all without saying a word.
That trust started with mastering the rules and grew when they began creating their own guidelines. That’s what happens when preparation meets chemistry!

RC knows ball! S/O to my teammates!
Jalen Ramsey has been on a tear this year, and a fractured wrist hasn’t slowed him down. His physicality has shown up on all three levels.
Sunday in Tampa, he called game 3 hours and 38 minutes after making his presence felt on the first third down.
Same @jalenramsey. Different look. Different rotation. Same finish. DC Patrick Graham put his favorite chess piece in position to impact the game from start to finish!

The Pivot got Colston? Count me in.
At halftime of Super Bowl XLIV, Sean Payton walked into the Saints locker room and told his team they were opening the second half with “Ambush.”
Trailing 10-6, New Orleans executed a surprise onside kick, recovered by Chris Reis. That moment changed the game and helped deliver the franchise its first and only Super Bowl title.
@MarquesColston said it wasn’t just preparation or execution. It was Payton’s superpower: communication that gave his team the confidence to believe and execute when it mattered most.

I sat with the latest news on Jalen Hurts last night, and three things weighed on me:
1. Jalen’s health is bigger than football.
2. The competence and allegiance of team’s medical staff’s are questionable.
3. The responsibility of sports media to respect a player’s character.
During my own health struggles in the league, a doctor once threw my test results on the table and said, “Now I’ll listen to you complain,”.
I needed answers then. From ownership, executives, coaches, and medical staff. Those same people should be answering questions in Philly right now.

Aaron Rodgers is a coach on the field, and so much of his communication happens without saying a word.
Here, @CharlieBatch16 Batch and I break down his game winning touchdown pass to Germie Bernard. If I can diagnose the coverage pre-snap, so can Aaron, and Charlie shows us exactly when Rodgers relayed the message to his rookie receiver.
The game within the game.

“Failure is part of the journey, it’s how we learn from it to keep going.” Marques Colston
From understanding Drew Brees’ football guidelines to playing under Sean Payton’s vision, Marques Colston takes us inside the mindset that helped build a championship culture in New Orleans and the 🗝️takeaways we use in everyday life.
But his story goes far beyond football. From losing his father at just 14 years old to becoming a Super Bowl champion, embracing fatherhood, and finding purpose beyond the game, Colston opens up about the experiences that shaped the man behind the jersey.
A seventh-round pick who became one of the most consistent and underrated receivers of his era, Colston’s journey is a powerful reminder that greatness isn’t always about recognition — it’s about preparation, resilience, and earning the trust of those around you.

Jalen Hurts has been the target of unfair criticism and baseless narratives, but now is not the time for that. His health is what matters most.
@CharlieBatch16 brought me back to my own health scares, while @OfficialCrowder reminded us of the gravity of this moment.
Jalen has consistently shown the character of a leader. My prayer is that he’s treated with the respect and humanity he deserves.
This is bigger than football. This is about his life.
