The LNG product markets woke up yesterday and some interesting observations in thread 1/n

A market failure is the inefficient allocation of resources in a free market. It is not high/low/volatile prices. Given that the #EU's #gas market has filled storages, curbed demand and pulled in loads of #LNG, it's hard to see how it could have been any more of success.
Replying to @ntsafos
The starting point for the intervention is a diagnosis of market failure in European gas:
✅ Prices untethered from fundamentals
✅ Manipulation by a dominant player
✅ Sharp drops in liquidity
✅ Extreme volatility
In this context, the question is *how* to intervene, not if.

Latest @ICISOfficial data shows a huge drop in industrial gas demand as response to high prices. Energy efficiency savings or signs of deindustrialisation? Economic indicators will tell, once published later this year. Credit to @TomLRodgers. #ONGT #natgas

You would need to replace all the cushion gas Centrica has extracted (at least 4bcm) before you could even start filling it up as a storage site. Cushion gas sits there to just maintain the pressure - you dont get it back in winter.
Government considers move to re-open gas storage facility mothballed in 2017.

In the last 3 months 68% of all Freeport #LNG exports have gone to the EU+UK #natgas market @ICISOfficial data show. If the plant is only offline for 3 weeks, that’s almost 1mt of production gone from the Atlantic. 3 weeks seems optimistic, imho. #TTF #ONGT
