Does lifelong exercise influence body composition?
Older endurance, sprint, and strength-trained athletes (aged 70-89) each had higher appendicular lean mass than healthy age-matched inactive controls.
But - lean mass was better preserved with lifelong strength training versus endurance training.
Sprint and endurance-trained older athletes also had lower fat mass than age-matched counterparts.

Couldn't have said it better. Sweating the details is dumb when the big picture is totally out of kilter
Meakins brings the truth bombs, as usual
The worlds best lifters know that their spines need to be trained in neutral… and flexion… and ALL the other positions a spine moves into!
Spine health is sooo much more than maintaining neutral!
And don’t let anyone like @SquatUniversity try to tell you differently!
Upset about the price of food in Canada? Here's a report breaking down why and by how much food prices went up over the last couple of years.
Some takeaways:
ourcommons.ca/DocumentViewer…
- small suppliers really get hosed by the purchasing power of large grocery chains
- labour costs have gone up massively
- fuel cost increases were significant ($2 diesel didn't help, that's for sure)
I live 5 minutes from the Don, and the change over the last 15 years has indeed been massive.

Anyone else notice resting heart rate fluctuations when not feeling well? My @fitbit RHR jumps 3-4 BPM when I'm under the weather.
The more interesting thing is it usually starts to go up a day BEFORE I get sick. Immune system starting to mobilize.
Some real gems in here. I've adopted the Twitter Lists approach a while ago and it has made it much easier to focus on my many interests separately and engage better.
Something I try to beat into my clients ceaselessly... No sleep = no health. If you CAN'T sleep, you have to figure out why.
Notice the "metabolic abnormalities" bit on the right side of the chart below? That means lack of sleep makes you fat.

5. EXERCISE: Do some exercise in the evening, but not too late and not too intense. The last thing you want is to rev up your metabolism before bed. Finish intense exercise before 7 pm.
After 7 pm, do light cycling, yoga or a brisk walk instead, up to 80% max heart rate.
