Cancer therapies can carry CV risks, but current safety tools fall short. The Cardiac Safety Research Consortium led a multi-stakeholder think tank to improve CV safety reporting in oncology trials. Read the findings + next steps in #JACCCardioOnc: jacc.org/doi/10.1016/j.jacca…

⭐️NEW PAPER OUT in @Nature⭐️
🫀What is the relationship between the immune responses in the heart, blood, and tumor in patients with inflammation in the heart resulting from cancer immunotherapy (irMyocarditis)?
This 🧵 breaks down the key findings

We
👉 Identify novel biomarkers of irMyocarditis onset and severity.
👉 Implicate non-immune cells in pathogenesis.
👉 Suggest that Tcell responses in the heart are distinct from those in tumors.
We hope that our findings will help to develop strategies to mitigate irMyocarditis

🌟 Antigens in irMyocarditis
🔍 None of the 52 most expanded TCRs from across 8 irMyocarditis patients responded to the heart proteins α-myosin, troponin I, or T.
👉 This suggests that the most expanded intracardiac T cell clones recognize novel autoantigen(s).

🌟 TCR clonality heart-tumor
🔍 Expanded heart clones ≠ expanded tumor clones
👉 Distinct T-cell clones suggest that T-cell responses in these patients may be directed against distinct antigens, providing hope to disentangle irMyocarditis from anti-tumor responses.

Very proud of amazing @ginny314gs from @mghmedres. Co-led with @kreynoldsMD from @MGHCancerCenter. Large language models with an excellent sensitivity and specificity for several key ICI associated adverse events and in 9 secs. Journal of Clinical Oncology ascopubs.org/doi/10.1200/JCO…
Congrats @HanZhuMD. That is so well deserved and in an area of limited research.
Proud to announce that we are now an R01 funded lab! We will be using single cell multi-omics in human samples & mouse models to test novel therapeutic pathways in cardiac sarcoidosis. #cardioimmunology @nih_nhlbi @NIH @StanfordCVI @StanfordDeptMed @Joseph_C_Wu @SeanM_Wu @EldrinL
