Having worked in Yugoslavia as a journalist in the 90s, this is astonishing to see. What is happening in Serbia right now gives hope that even in the most controlled regimes there are people whose hope and ambition can lead them to achieve extraordinary things.
📺 “We reported events one-sidedly for years”: Serbian TV apologizes to viewers after Vučić's party loses the election Radio Television of Vojvodina (RTV) opened its news broadcast with footage of celebrations following the Student List's election victory — scenes it had failed to show the previous evening. “For years, we failed to fulfill our duty. We kept silent, turned a blind eye, reported events one-sidedly, and failed to ask the necessary questions. For that, we owe our viewers an apology,” news anchor Goran Eror said. Following the controversy, RTV's acting editor-in-chief Nenad Čačić resigned. A similar incident occurred in Hungary, where state television also apologized to viewers after Viktor Orbán's election defeat.

The UK is exporting its carbon footprint. We ship 8M tonnes of scrap steel to nations with weak environmental laws, only to buy the finished product back. #UKSteel #NetZero

There are stark inequalities in access to green space which should urgently be addressed. Government promised legislation but where is it? We need new legal mechanisms so local communities can take over unused public land for food growing & pocket parks inews.co.uk/news/the-towns-w…

Planting a tree means nothing if it dies a week later. Local authority tree planting is down 45%, and the trees we do plant are heavily imported, bringing biosecurity risks with them. 🧵1/2 @nationaltrust @HTAnews @The_RHS @DefraGovUK #TreePlanting #Biosecurity #StrongRoots

Breaking News! Code: y-Axis Alert! Yesterday's Nino 3.4 preliminary sea-surface temperature anomaly set a new record high, at 3.48°C above the 1991-2020 baseline. To clearly show this anomaly, the y-axis max was raised to 4.0°C. Attention historians: this is gobsmackingly bananas.

There is no area, of any city which isn’t made infinitely better by well-thought through pedestrianisation.
people replying like the rest of europe hasn't been removing cars from city centres for years now and all of them are cleaner, happier, prettier public spaces which their residents prefer

What a relief! Lula’s unexpected victory gives hope for the Amazon. He has dramatically cut felling, while Bolsonaro’s plans would doubtless have taken it past its tipping point, ensuring total eventual destruction with huge global consequences. euronews.com/2026/10/19/amaz…

Dumbarton, Scotland. Weatherspoons. Reminder: floods and droughts are getting worse globally. This is the pattern: you get severe drought and then you get huge amounts of rain dumped in intense bursts. This is all going to get worse and worse and worse. This is the climate change we’ve been ignoring for decades.
