Ather Energy: Strong growth, first-ever quarterly profit, and a major capacity expansion 🔥 🔸 Q2 FY27 highlights • Registrations surged 60% YoY to 92,500 units • Wholesale volumes grew 42% to 93,000 units • EBITDA margin turned positive at 4.9% vs. -9.6% a year ago • First-ever positive quarterly PAT • Gross margin reached 24%, up 1.6 percentage points QoQ • Pre-orders jumped 108% to 1.8 lakh • AtherStack Pro attach rate stood at 94%, with non-vehicle revenue contributing 15% The demand-supply gap is the bigger story. 🔥 👉 Management estimates 20,000 units/month of unrealised retail demand. To address this, Ather is expanding capacity at Hosur and Auric, targeting 11.4 lakh units annually by Q2 FY28. Dealer network expansion is also expected to pick up from Q4. Konak could be another growth driver. Early response has been encouraging, and its lower-cost platform could deliver 6-7% better gross margins than comparable Rizta variants over time. The catch? Commodity inflation remains elevated and part of the recent margin improvement comes from temporary levers. The next trigger is execution: ram 👉 Watch capacity ramp-up, Konak traction and margin sustainability. No reco.
Ather Energy Q1 FY27 - Demand > Supply 🔥 🔶️ Demand has moved into a different orbit • Retail +102% YoY to 90K+; wholesale +81% to 83K • Paid pre-orders +158% to 1.5 lakh; inquiries +95% to 7 lakh+ • Ather could sell another 13-15K units/month with adequate supply; dealers are fulfilling just 50-60% of demand • Inventory collapsed to 3 days, while waiting periods reached 2+ months • Middle India +141%, with Tier 2/3 increasingly driving growth. 🔶️ EV adoption is accelerating • E2W penetration reached 11% of 2Ws and 25%+ of scooters; industry registrations +68% YoY • Ather searches +118%, supported by policy push, fuel concerns and improving EV economics 🔶️ Capacity is the key constraint • Hosur is nearly maxed at 35K/month • AURIC Phase 1 takes annual capacity 4.2L → 9.2L, with 42K/month ramp targeted around Q4-end/Q1 FY28 • Phase 2 can take capacity further to 14.2L/year and may be fast-tracked • ₹2,500 Cr fundraise provides ammunition for capacity, suppliers and new products. Store expansion will also accelerate once supply improves 🔶️ First-ever positive EBITDA • ASP improved from ₹1.50L → ₹1.61L; AtherStack Pro attach rate hit 94% • Despite a 5.6 ppt commodity hit, adjusted gross margin held at 22.4% • Cost discipline drove first positive EBITDA of ₹9 Cr / 0.8% • Another 100-200 bps commodity hit is possible, but price hikes should largely cushion Q2 🔶️ EL = next growth engine • New EL scooter unveiling on 29 Aug; capacity can scale to ~60K/month across AURIC + Hosur • Initial focus likely Rest of India/North; EL should lower costs but dilute ASP • Motorcycles remain 2+ years away as Ather stays focused on EL 🔶️ Beyond vehicle sales Non-vehicle revenue is already 14% of operating revenue. AtherStack Pro leads today, while accessories and especially service revenue could become meaningful long-term profit pools. Src - @concall_in 🔴 Disclaimer: No recommendation. In India’s ₹87-lakh crore mutual fund industry, Newer fund houses outperform larger rivals as market volatility tests investment strategies. Not through bigger distribution networks or longer track records — but through equity portfolios that have handled recent volatility better. Newer AMCs (started 2023 or later) delivered superior 1-year returns versus the average of the three largest schemes in multiple categories. Key showdowns: • Bajaj Finserv Small Cap: +7.5% vs -2.6% for the giants (Nifty Smallcap 250: -1.9%) • Old Bridge Focused: +5.4% vs -3.5% • Bajaj Finserv Multi Cap: +0.9% vs -7.6% • Helios Mid Cap: -0.6% vs -3.4% • Unifi Flexi Cap SIP: +4.6% vs category average of -7.6% Jeremy Grantham once said size of AUM is the ultimate barrier to successful investing — as assets grow, you’re forced into more (and often worse) ideas or oversized positions. Smaller funds can still enter less-liquid stocks without moving the market, giving them an edge the giants no longer enjoy. Caveats matter: track records are short, not every new fund is outperforming, and differences in style, cash, and sector bets explain part of the gap. Size alone is no longer looking invincible. It’s easy to help someone when they remain grateful, dependent, or less successful than you. The real test comes when they no longer need you. Can you celebrate their independence without feeling abandoned? Can you admire their success without reminding them of your contribution? Can you give without expecting a permanent place in their story? Generosity is not fully tested when you give. It’s tested when you no longer get to decide what your gift means.

FPIs stepped up selling in Indian equities in the second half of September — ₹21,745 crore outflows in Sep 16–30, after ₹14,116 crore in the first half. Biggest sector outflows (Sep 16–30): 🏦 Financials: ₹6,943 cr 🛢️ Oil & Gas: ₹4,469 cr 🚗 Auto: ₹3,542 cr 📡 Telecom: ₹2,423 cr ⛏️ Metals & Mining: ₹2,322 cr Financials, a large share of foreign portfolios, tend to take the hit when India exposure is cut. Limited inflows went into consumer services, services, textiles and construction. Telecom selling is also being linked to profit-taking after a rerating, and possible positioning ahead of the Jio Platforms IPO — with some money reportedly moving out of Bharti Airtel. The power sector is under growing strain as near-record demand collides with critically low coal stocks, pushing spot prices sharply higher. Key points: • IEX day-ahead price averaged ~₹7.3/unit in September, up 105% YoY • 90 thermal plants at critical coal stocks — highest on record • 190 plants hold 20.5 mt coal, only 33% of normative requirement • Peak demand hit 269 GW on Sept 10; national consumption up 11% to 162 BU • IEX volumes rose 10.4% YoY to 12.22 BU • NTPC stocks down to 5.2 mt (~7 days cover) from 18.7 mt in April (~25 days) across 50 plants Supply tightness is feeding directly into higher exchange prices. ⚡📉🏭 Source: Business Standard #Coal #powerimbalance #Electricity
India’s power consumption jumped 11.3% YoY in September to 162 billion units, driven by cooling and irrigation demand amid a weak monsoon. Peak demand hit a record 269 GW. NTPC generated 38.8 billion units (+12.5%). Coal India supplies rose 12.5% to 61.2 MT (power sector +10.6% to 48.9 MT), and production grew 9.2% to 53.5 MT. Stocks at plants still fell sharply as rains hit coal transport. Source: Economic Times

Desire says: “I want this.” Appetite says: “I need more of this.” The distinction matters. You can genuinely desire wealth without becoming obsessed with money. Desire points toward an object. Appetite keeps moving after the object is acquired. That’s why some people keep winning and still feel deprived. They aren’t chasing a goal anymore. They’re feeding an appetite that learned how to disguise itself as ambition.

Selling pressure continues. Neither strong GDP numbers nor earnings are providing enough support to the market. The message from the market is clear: fundamentals alone aren’t enough when sentiment and liquidity remain weak. Until buyers regain conviction, volatility and profit-booking may continue. Stay patient. Protect capital. Let the market confirm the trend. #StockMarket #IndianStockMarket #Nifty50 #Investing #Markets

Slew of corrections dents large-cap funds’ long-term return picture 5-year returns of most active large-cap MFs are now under 7.5% annualised — average just 7.1%, close to bank FDs. Passive Nifty 50/100 funds are around 6.5% CAGR. Key points: 📉 Prolonged time correction since Sept 2024 plus a sharp recent drop has crushed largecap performance. The market has been under pressure for nearly two years, with its longest losing streak in 25 years over the past eight weeks. 🌍 Biggest drag: sustained FPI selling. High valuations, weak earnings growth and better opportunities elsewhere kept foreign money out. Elevated US yields, a crude spike and a weaker rupee made it worse. 📊 Return gap has widened sharply. 5-year average CAGR: smallcaps 14.6%, midcaps 13.3%, largecaps 7.1%. 💸 Flows have followed the outperformance. Small-cap funds hit nearly ₹8,000 cr inflows in August; large-cap funds saw over ₹1,000 cr outflows in July and August. SMID schemes now account for 50–55% of active equity inflows (Elara). Equities are not always the best long-term asset class. Timing and segment matter. Source: Business Standard Disclaimer: Viral Shah - AMFI Registered Mutual Fund Distributor | ARN-[328071, ZFunds]. Mutual Funds & Sortino Ratio: Why Largecaps Are Struggling Large-cap-focused mutual fund schemes in India have delivered poor risk-adjusted returns relative to the downside risk they carry. Key metric? Sortino Ratio — which measures excess returns per unit of downside risk (more relevant for investors who hate big drawdowns than the Sharpe ratio). A ratio below 1 means the extra return isn’t worth the downside pain. 📉 3-Year Data (as of July 7): - Zero largecap schemes crossed Sortino ratio of 1. - Only 21.7% of flexicap funds managed >1 (even though they can invest across sizes, most money still goes to largecaps). In contrast: ✅ The majority of midcap & smallcap schemes comfortably crossed 1. Why the difference? - Midcap category delivered the highest returns: 19.09% CAGR (3 years). - Smallcap: 17.95% - Flexicap: 13.27% - Largecap: 11.49% Index performance tells the same story: BSE MidCap ~18.2% | BSE SmallCap ~19.1% | BSE LargeCap just 9.3%. Sortino depends on returns above risk-free rate. Higher risk-free rates and strong mid- and small-cap performance over the last 3 years boosted their ratios. Large caps suffered from limited earnings growth and a weak outlook among many blue chips. Result: Wide divergence even within categories. Category Ranges (3-year Sortino): - Largecap: 0.32 – 0.86 - Flexicap: -0.2 – 1.59 - Midcap: 0.51 – 1.4 - Smallcap: 0.65 – 1.66 Mid & smallcap categories clearly offered better downside protection for the returns delivered. Bottom line: Size matters in this market. Pure largecap funds have struggled on a risk-adjusted basis. Diversified or mid/small exposure has rewarded investors better in the recent 3-year period. Always check Sortino (and other risk metrics) before investing — not just past returns. What’s your take — staying with largecaps or tilting towards mid/small? 👇 Source: Business Standard Disclaimer: Viral Shah - AMFI Registered Mutual Fund Distributor | ARN-[328071, ZFunds] Mutual Fund investments are subject to market risks.
