In the @BlackHatEvents Book Store you can find "Open Circuits" - a wonderful @nostarch book about the internals of various things by @oskay (buts psst: they only brought 15 copies, 6 left, two on hold... ๐Ÿ˜‰)

I need a breadboard that fits all the newer microcontroller dev boards that are gigantic like the ESP32 Dev Kit boards or FPGA boards. I also just want more slots sometimes. And every other column should be gray. ๐Ÿ‘

I received a mysterious aerospace computer from the early 1970s, probably for navigation. It is crammed full of flat-pack integrated circuits surrounding a core memory module. Let's take a look inside... 1/17

This looks like a pretty simple computer program right? Maybe a while loop, a delay and writing some data to an output port?

Fighter jets in the 1950s used the electromechanical Bendix air data computer to determine Mach number etc. I hooked up a gauge to the pressure transducer section so you can see the gears spin and the dial turn.

At first this thing looks really weird. But judging the year it was made, using a Sony Discman as signal source starts to make sense. No arbitrary audio source could have better price-performance with such a small form factor at that time.

#ThrowbackThursday to 1977, when the CERN Bulletin announced that CERN's computers were then able to handle words, as well as numbers. ๐Ÿง These pictures feature the display console of a CDC 3100 computer at CERN. From that year, these computers had their own special text-handling system, allowing all kinds of users โ€“ not just computer specialists โ€“ to produce reports, letters, and more. The latter pictures show the display console being used with a โ€˜light-penโ€™ to examine particle track configurations, such as those that could be produced in a new bubble chamber.
