With the usual caveat that nothing Trump says means much, and that nothing he does follows a clear logic, signs increasingly are pointing to renewed US/Israeli strikes on Iran. The US can ensure the war will be intense. It can't ensure it will be short. And Iran will have every incentive to make it as long and painful as possible.

I really think everyone needs to pay attention to this cordinated campaign to delegimatize Muslim Americans - not just as citizens but as humans. These increasingly hysterical attacks are a prelude to Republicans bringing us to a very, very dark place after the election.
RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Novel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

The data to me says that if anything the issue of Israel is helpful to El-Sayed in Michigan. He does better among voters who say it's extremely impt to their vote than overall. Most Mich voters & indies want military aid ended or reduced to Israel. AIPAC is deeply unpopular.

I hate this condescending whataboutism. Yes Bret, if the interior minister of Japan was a right-wing religious zealot using US taxpayer money for ethnic cleansing, they would probably be better known.
NYT's Bret Stephens whines that Democrats know "Smotrich and Ben-Gvir" but not "the interior minister of Japan." Their "obsession" with Israel drives him "crazy." (Being politically informed on Israel is now anti-Semitic.)

"I think it's weird how few people are troubled by the gist of the antisemitism defense. If you say that asking about support for Israel is an antisemitic attack on your religion, then at some level you're suggesting -- or at least encouraging the inference -- that the far right Israeli government's form of Judaism defines or informs your interpretation of Judaism. There are lots of Jews that don't subscribe to the Israeli government version and when you ask them about Israel, they don't respond by saying, 'how dare you attack my religion?'" Their level of un-self-awareness is off the charts, lol.
I think it's weird how few people are troubled by the gist of Sayed's Islamophobia defense. If you say that asking about support for the Muslim Brotherhood is an Islamophobic attack on your religion, then at some level you're suggesting -- or at least encouraging the inference -- that the MB's form of Islam defines or informs your interpretation of Islam. There are lots of Muslims that don't subscribe to the MB version and when you ask them about the Muslim Brotherhood, they don't respond by saying "how dare you attack my religion?"

Don’t be mislead by @jonfiner and @PhilGordonDC. They’re both seasoned sanctions practitioners. They know full well that the economic and financial warfare they’re advocating against Israel won’t stop at the Green Line. It will hit banks, businesses and all Israelis inside Israel itself. Their mission is clear: coerce Israelis into accepting a Palestinian state—even if it is highly likely it will be controlled by Hamas, riddled with corruption, and posing a mortal threat to Israel’s security. They have learned nothing from October 7 and the failed territorial withdrawals of the past.

A young blonde woman with an American accent in Israel says that all the Arabs must be kicked out of Gaza because it is "our land" since "God commanded us to take it." The Palestinians should be kicked out to any other Arab state, she continues, except Jordan, Lebanon, and Syria, "because they are ours." "Or we will kill them," she adds Can we stop pretending that this is a marginal view in Israel? That these are the comments of a fringe minority? They are not. Israel has been on this path for quite some time. Western governments know it fully - yet they continue to fund and enable Israel's genocidal policies.

Quite the closing argument for Netanyahu to acknowledge his legacy is the end of US military aid and his re-election would mean sanctions, isolation and reliance on cryptocurrency. No illusions about opposition but they would at least try to avoid this future.

The diplomatic discussions this week have failed to avert the rush to another round of Israel/US-Iran war. Both public and non-public signs point in the same direction - the hostilities can start as early as this weekend. The final decision is in the hands of a single person who all too often listens to the wrong people. Absent a 180-degree turn by Trump, the third round of this war of choice appears all but certain. Sadly, Trump continues to listen to Israeli PM Netanyahu, who is aggressively pushing for war and who has sold Trump the mythology that through an all-out bombing campaign that targets Iran’s energy and critical infrastructure, a military victory can be achieved that allows Trump to win the war on his own terms. Trump is once again buying what Netanyahu is selling. But he is not only buying the rationale for another round, but he is also adopting Israel’s metric of success: Pure destruction. While we are horrified by the destruction in Gaza, Israeli leaders see it as evidence of success. Their strategic goal is destruction that sets back their enemies decades. They don't believe in peace, but rather in war as a foundational state and, as a result, success in war is to set back your enemies years, if not decades. Israel’s Defense Minister Katz has explicitly stated that the goal in the next round of the war is to set back Iran decades and bomb it back to the Stone Age. Trump, in turn, rambles about how much of Iran’s military capabilities he has destroyed, as if such tactical achievements amount to a strategic win in and of themselves. In Israel, they do. In the US, not so much. We’ll discuss this and more during our 12th Q&A session, which reveals what will likely happen in the next round of war. It is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct 27 at 10:00 AM Eastern Time. (By request, I am scheduling this session a bit earlier in the day to allow subscribers in Asia to partake) tritaparsi.substack.com/publ…

Oil-exporting economies in the Middle East have seen a sharp slowdown in economic activity due to disruptions to energy production and shipping. Higher energy prices have helped cushion the blow, but economic strains remain significant. imf.org/en/publications/reo/…

The US has fired more interceptors to defend Israel THAN ISRAEL HAS FIRED
The US fired an estimated 609 ballistic missile interceptors to defend Israeli territory from October 2023 through September 2026. The US has fired more interceptors to defend Israel than Israel has.

No. I’m not “scapegoating” AIPAC. You support Trump's illegal war in Iran. Americans don’t. You want taxpayers to spend billions funding the Israeli government. Americans don’t. Your super PAC is spending $9 million to defeat Abdul because he opposes your agenda. Unacceptable.
AIPAC is why your fantasy football team stinks. AIPAC is why the weather is bad. AIPAC is why you need an app to park. Say NO to Bernie’s obsessive scapegoating. YES to an America that works with our ally to create U.S. jobs, keep America safe, and promote democratic values.

70% of Americans oppose the existing disastrous war with Iran. Trump has now committed to a massive escalation which would include ground troops and billions of taxpayer money to prop up a new regime. 70% would move to 99%. washingtonpost.com/world/202…

This guy is very funny because the premise of all his tweets is that Palestinians are provoking settlers by picking their own olives on their own land.
More drama being planned tomorrow by anti-Israel provocateurs in Judea and Samaria. Getting so old and predictable.

Who is making Israel the pariah exactly?
I don't think Israelis or American Jews understand what is coming. It will not be limited to settlers. When they don't get their desired (unrealistic) outcomes from targeted actions they will move on to broader sanctions. Israel the pariah is the objective.

“Will Trump bomb Iran again” is the incessant news story of 2026 and under the Constitution he should not even have the power to decide.

If being politely and mildly confronted with one’s internalized racism, illiberalism and chauvinist delusions is “painful” then that’s a you problem. I am extremely over this genre of mopey solipsism. Grow up! Be an adult and commit to a position and defend it on its own terms!
