must feel good to be an Anthropic co-founder > help build chatgpt at OAI by training on world's collective knowledge > keep model weights closed to extract max profit from every token you sell > leave and launch a direct competitor > spend years and millions lobbying washington on how dangerous your own models are > get designated a supply chain risk by the pentagon and fail to ban OSS anyway > pay $1.5bn to settle over 500k pirated books (while watching equity value rocket past $2tn) > predict you will soon create a "country of geniuses in a data center", warn that half of entry level white collar jobs will vanish, and sell the dream of curing cancer > have your staff call it presumptuous to expect your company to make money > meanwhile have your company buy back your shares above fair value, then sell again in a second tender and into the IPO > pledge 80% to charity, which your own s1 calls "voluntary, revocable" and "not legally binding" > keep a fixed 50.1% of the votes through one share, even after selling 98% > help pick the trustees who pick the board > park 5% of the company in a "public benefit fund" you co-run > have shareholders cover the private jet for personal use > call it a public benefit corporation anyway

Dear @federalreserve this is what happens when you ignore your mandate and screw around in the mortgage market.
New homes are cheaper than existing homes: For 50 years, a new house cost more than a used one. That changed in 2024. The median new single-family home sells for $393,700. The median existing one sells for $422,700. That’s a $29,000 discount for buying new. Per square foot, new homes go for $205. Existing homes go for $212. New construction has been the cheaper option in 17 of the last 19 months. The reason is supply. Builders are sitting on 8.5 months of inventory, nearly double the 4.8 months of existing homes, where owners locked into pandemic-era mortgage rates aren’t selling. So builders cut. New home prices are down -5.8% from a year ago. The builder has to sell. The homeowner doesn’t.

It’s super interesting to watch the credit market showing signs of convulsion on par with what we saw in 2008 and March of 2020, and yet equities seem blissfully unaware and the semi conductor companies and private credit are leaping into more debt. @junkbondinvest

Apparently the wiz kids at $AVGO are watching $NVDA CDS explode and are thinking to themselves; “you know what would be a good idea right now? …a $63 billion off balance sheet loan to $ANT”.

From 2025-2032 the US will spend $9 trillion on data centers. This would require revenues of $3.5 trillion in 2032 to justify a positive ROIC. That compares to just $120 billion this year and would equate to 8.8% of GDP in 2032. Total IT spend today is 4% of GDP. $NVDA $GOOG

A majority of Democrats on the House Financial Services Committee have agreed to make Maxine Waters the next Committee Chair when Dems retake the house. Maxine Waters! Could there possible be a less qualified person to lead a Financial Services Committee! What are they thinking!
