Painless, paperless and fast. AI is transforming livestock insurance in Nepal.
With agriculture employing nearly 60% of Nepal’s workforce and contributing over a quarter of its GDP, protecting farmers from climate and disaster risks are defining development challenges.
Through @UNDP’s flagship Insurance and Risk Finance Facility (IRFF), in collaboration with the Government of Nepal and United Ajod Insurance, farmers can now use secure, AI-powered muzzle print matching to obtain livestock insurance and speed up claims from home. And with an 80% government subsidy covering the premium, farmers pay just 20% of the cost.
Aligned with Nepal’s Integrated National Financing Framework (INFF), this public-private initiative is helping strengthen financial safety nets for smallholder farmers, enabling them to recover faster from climate shocks and protect their livelihoods.
