For over 3 years I’ve been following the case of Demetrius Kern after he was arrested by Cleveland Heights, Ohio police officers for not producing his ID…
Mr. Kern had been falsely arrested and charged after he was almost hit by a police cruiser driven by Officer Carly Lewis, whose video deposition was featured back in January of this year…
That arrest was made primarily at the direction of Officer Lewis’s supervisor, Sgt. Naftali Wolf, whose video deposition was featured in February of this year. At the end of that video, I mentioned that the civil lawsuit against them was still pending, and that the parties were waiting on the judge to rule on the officers’ request for qualified immunity….
Good riff by the DHS GC.
I would've added a simple rhetorical question, which law do I get to violate without consequence or is that a privilege solely reserved for noncitizens?

The Illinois GOP never wants to have the debate about why the party is a failure. The time to have the debate is now.

People ask me why I don't own JPMorgan.
I tell them I own something better.
I own a 128-year-old bank in an Iowa county with more hogs than people. Three branches. $280 million in assets. A chairman who still signs every loan over $50,000 with the fountain pen his father used.
It trades at 0.6x tangible book. It hasn't had a loan loss over $10,000 since the Clinton administration.
JPMorgan has never once mailed me a calendar with a covered bridge on it.

Good job Trump. Telling Texas what to do always goes over well with the natives. Not that you pissed off the Hispanic vote or anything... it's only 40% of the demographics. No big deal.

Attention to "flyover America" helped Trump 2024 win. If rural America is hurt, not helped, political effects will already be seen in midterms this year and 2028 will be worse.

Damage to US agriculture and farm exports from the tariffs and the retaliation they drew is still unquantified, and it will likely surface after the midterms. Once it does, expect a Senate less willing to back Trump’s trade agenda, and possibly one that moves to pull the president’s discretionary tariff authorities back into Congress.
Today's weekly installment of @MorningAnswer's "In-Depth History" with Frank the History Teacher from Arlington Heights is a good one: history tells us the GOP wins when it features streetfighters not cake-eaters. And there's nothing new in this world; just the history you don't know and Frank does...

Good Morning! In November 1880, James Garfield won the Presidency winning the National Popular Vote by a mere 1900 votes, making it the closest such majority in US History. This was the 6th Republican victory in a row going back to Lincoln’s first win in 1860. Garfield won this race with the help of Party Boss Senator Roscoe Conkling who got his favorite fellow hack Chester Alan Arthur on the ticket. Whatever the ethics of Conkling were, he sure knew how to win elections.
But in 1884, Conkling fell out of favor politically in NY and the new reform-minded Governor Grover Cleveland ran for President giving the Democrats their first Presidential victory since the Civil War. He won his home state with the help of Tammany Hall in Gotham, which turned out a heavy immigrant vote, one way or the other. Much like Florida once was a swing state with a conservative northern panhandle tied with Duval County and the I-4 corridor versus the liberal counterweights of Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties, NY in the post Civil War era had a reliably Republican Upstate countered by a Democratic New York City an it worked for Grover this time around much to Republican suspicion.
So, in 1888, the most under-rated politico there ever was – Republican Senator Matt Quay of Pennsylvania, decided to counter Tammany’s alleged magical vote production and counting techniques, with his own thorough and meticulous voter list created by his own Ward Heelers who went thru of all NYCity, block by block. He also made it clear his organization was watching for “Repeaters” who voted more than once., and in an era of open caucus style voting, this was much easier to track.
On election night, when Republican Benjamin Harrison realized he won New York and the Electoral College at least, he thanked God for his victory. Senator Quay responded…. “Providence hadn’t a damn thing to do with it”. Our Justice Dept needs to be on watch next week, whether in Alaska, California, Arizona. But what the GOP really needs to ensure our elections are free and fair, are gritty and determined street fighters, like the one and only Senator Matthew Quay.

Me and my brother hired our second employee. Scaling was in mind the whole time, let me explain:
Backstory: He’s an experienced installer who is currently employed but not in HVAC. We’ve worked with him for years before, we know his value.
He asked for 27 an hour, we gave him $35 an hour. $40 if he gets Google reviews on 60%+ of his installs and keeps the call back rate under 5%. Double time on Saturday installs
He can make sheet metal, he’s reliable and can train helpers. The goal is for him to install 1.3 million in one year (revenue)
That 1.3 million doesn’t get sold if my brother can’t get off the job site. So now employee 1 and 2 can do 1-2 installs a day while my brother sells estimates and converts service calls
“$35 an hour? $40 with bonuses?? We can’t afford that!”
Nah, we can’t afford NOT to. Phones are ringing with mild weather. What’s it going to be like when the temps drop? You gotta put the pieces in place now so when the SEO is working, you can take full advantage of the opportunities
3 million in year two is my goal for our HVAC company. We’re not going to do it by getting scared about layoffs or the economy or insert whatever fear here.
We’ve got reliability and experience with our staff and I know how to make the phones ring, the rest will fall into place 🚀
