For over 25 years, he served NARO with distinction advancing agricultural biotechnology, biosafety, and research innovation for national development.
His legacy will endure in the science he championed and the lives he impacted.

The NARO Director General, Dr. Yona Baguma has this morning addressed the High-level Policy Workshop that is being held in Seoul, South Korea, in celebration of the 15th year anniversary of the Korea Partnership for Innovation of Agriculture (KOPIA).
Dr. Baguma is leading a delegation from NARO that also includes the Deputy Director General in charge Research Coordination, Dr. Swidiq Mugerwa.
He congratulated KOPIA on the 15th anniversary and acknowledged the excellent leadership at the KOPIA Uganda Centre. He cited joint milestones registered in the production of citrus, rice, and seed potato, which have doubled yields among Ugandan farmers and significantly increased household incomes.
He called for further support to NARO in four key areas including in developing sustainable seed systems; Investing in food value chains; Investing in farmer skilling programs; and Investing in storage and conservation of germplasm.
