The recent Starlink / Starshield incident in Ukraine has created a dangerous precedence for the US export industry, many haven't yet grasped. The sudden deactivation respectively curtailing of those systems without warning not only cost precious lives, but also equipment worth millions. Though the blame game between the White House (Trump) and SpaceX (Musk) is going on, ultimately it doesn't matter. It showed the world that the USA are not a reliable partner any more. Pointing at some obscure "violation of terms of services" without providing the exact passage are just increasing that notion that this was a political move. The explanation that Starlink must not be used for "offensive" means is nonsense, too. Starlink has never been turned on over Russia, and using it in Ukraine is by definition defensive in nature. You can even argue that hitting Russian targets in Russia is defensive, since you don't have to wait for an attack to be conducted. Even the intention is enough to warrant action and to eliminate the threat at the source. But this is a different topic. Furthermore, SpaceX has been fully aware that its Starlink terminals are being used by Ukrainian forces. Especially when considering that Ukraine only recently had to white-list their Starlink terminals for the Ukrainian military so that Russian forces, who have been abundantly using Starlink as well, were locked out. It has always been clear that those Starlink terminals are used for and by the Ukrainian military, and Ukraine has always been thankful for that. Coming up with this bogus story, now, three weeks before midterms is therefore as transparent as it is shameless. It is obvious for everyone that this was just figleaf statement so that a political agenda can be pushed, an agenda which runs counter to the strategic nationalist interests of the USA, both political and economic. And this is the real scandal. It is not new that the US had to lock out its technology or supplies to nations with which it had previously good and even cordial relation. Iran under the Shah, South-Vietnam and Cuba before Castro are just three to name it. But as you can see from them, it made perfectly sense back then. Those nations switched sides or disappeared altogether. Ukraine on the other hand didn't switch sides and even helped the US in the most recent and botched Iran war, despite being short on ammunition itself. The Ukrainian government accepted every possible compromise and offered an unconditional ceasefire from the start. Russia on the hand refused all of it and is demanding surrender. Yet, it gets this treatment? Unbelievable. This will be noted by all clients around the globe who purchase US weapons and technology. If agreements are not honored and can unilaterally and even clandestinely be altered based on the whims of a few, who only follow their own motives or election lies, then the all concept reliability falls apart. Whether it is Starlink, the F-35, Tomahawk missiles or HIMARS. All those systems run on software and in many cases can only properly operate with recent updates. You don't even need have a kill switch. You can only refuse to update and many of those systems lose more than 90% of their effectiveness within a short period, making worthless. This is why we see the blame game between Musk and Trump. I'm sure that people around those guys told them how absolutely shortsighted and stupid this step was. It will fall back on the entire US industry. Not even those two guys are worth that losses and backlash. A functional US Congress would immediately start subpoenas and hearings, asking questions in order to mitigate the damage, but here we are. Trump and Musk have given the best reason why not to buy American. Customers - governmental and private alike - around the globe will take note of this and act accordingly, and I wouldn't be surprised if this won't be limited to US military products only. An absolutely senseless and avoidable own goal.

The right response: Europe must help Ukraine destroy russia's refineries. Thank you, dear @KristenMichalPM, for this clear stance: our priority. Let's also help Kyiv target the missile launchers that are killing Ukrainian civilians & take out the archer! euromaidanpress.com/2026/10/…

Pres. @ZelenskyyUa’s cold and justified anger. The US has given the russian death machine even more fuel. Their infamy will be recorded in the history books for centuries to come. The Europeans must throw all their strength into the battle—not a metaphor—to knock down the enemy.
What allowing Russia to sell oil products means was heard most clearly in Kyiv just now, when, after repeated attacks on energy facilities with jet-powered “shaheds,” Russia launched a ballistic missile attack as well. Some of the missiles were intercepted. This once again clearly demonstrates Russia’s true intentions. They count on prolonging the war, terrorizing ordinary people, and destroying infrastructure. Every additional billion dollars they can earn from exports will be spent on nothing but sourcing and importing critical components and equipment to manufacture weapons, upgrading “shaheds,” producing missiles, and recruiting even more mercenaries to fight at the front. Russia’s choice is war. And they will be ready to end it only when they feel that their ability to drag the war out is diminishing. Unfortunately, the signals Russia received yesterday were entirely different – signals suggesting that it could simply keep attacking. And this needs to be corrected. Strong signals are needed from the United States, Europe, and other partners – signals in support of Ukraine and to RESTRICT Russia’s ability to wage war and terrorize people. Thank you to everyone who stands with Ukraine!

President Zelenskyy’s comment on US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s remarks that the war in Ukraine is at a "strategic stalemate" and that there are now "no prospects for a negotiated settlement": "You cannot negotiate future economic projects with Russians on the one hand and, on the other, claim that we are in some kind of diplomatic stalemate. We are not in a diplomatic stalemate. Shut down Russia’s entire economy. Shut Russia's mouth. Stop feeding them through your sales. Impose sanctions on their weapons. Open Starlink for Ukraine. You opened it when responding to Iran, after all. Everything worked there. Israel completely controlled the skies over Iran. So when you need it to work, it works. It costs them nothing to help Ukraine. And I said quite frankly: help us protect our skies and gain dominance there. Then Putin will sit down at the negotiating table. Why? Because he will lose everything. In two or three months, he will lose everything. And instead, we are waiting for the Chinese to develop an equivalent and hand it over to Russians. This is not a stalemate - this is called a lack of will."
"Right now, there don’t seem to be prospects of a negotiated settlement of the war in Ukraine. But the US is prepared to play whatever role we can in making that happen. It would be good for Russia and Ukraine, but so far, it’s proving elusive." - US Secretary of State Marco Rubio In an interview with the Greek outlet Kathimerini, Rubio described the war in Ukraine as a "strategic stalemate" that can be overcome in only two ways: through negotiations or through escalation that goes beyond the original conflict. Rubio said that, at present, there are no prospects for resolving the war through negotiations. According to him, Russia continues to insist on full control over Donbas, while for Ukraine "that condition is simply unacceptable." "A diplomatic solution has eluded us, but we are prepared, if we can play a constructive role, to make it happen. In the meantime, we watch with great concern as escalation could happen. Just yesterday, some ships were attacked in the Black Sea through a coordinated drone attack. We’re worried about a sabotage operation in a neighboring country that can spiral out of control. And, obviously, there are clear indications that Russia will use the upcoming winter as something they want to use to destroy what remains of the electric grid in Ukraine and force them into capitulation. Meanwhile, Ukraine has grown more effective in its ability to conduct long-range strikes deep into Russia. So, we share the same concern. The whole world is going about this thing like something that could escalate and perhaps become a broader conflict. So, we stand prepared to facilitate and continue to explore any opportunity for a negotiated settlement," Rubio said.

‼️Since 14 March, the Irish NAFO Shadow Tanker Platoon has tracked 60 shipments of alumina to russia from Aughinish Alumina The overall export is an estimated 471K tonnes of Alumina which can smelt 235K tons of aluminium. That’s a lot of “foundational metal of war” for Putin.

‼️The Irish Government secured an agreement from Rusal and Aughinish Alumina Ltd earlier this year to place €31 million into an escrow account to help with the clean-up costs of Aughinish post closure. The problem? There is a 450 acre, 50 million tonne caustic waste dump on-site containing the bye-product waste of producing alumina. The escrowed money equates to €0.62c per tonne. The #Alumina22 campaign understands that the cheapest containment option to deal with this red mud waste, will cost approx €20 a tonne post closure. At 50 million tons, that’s a fee of €1 Billion. I repeat. There’s €31 Million in the escrow account. The Irish taxpayer is therefore liable, at best, and assuming no damage to the estuary, €969,000,000 in clean-up costs. Some may say, if you deal with russia: FAFO.

I express my full support for @Kasparov63 & my admiration for his clarity of thought & courage. From the very beginning, he has described the reality of russian power with unassailable logic. Everything he warned about has come to pass. He has made it plain what we needed to do.
My thanks to everyone expressing their outrage and concern. Of course there are millions of people whose lives are threatened by Russia every day in Ukraine, and Ukrainian victory remains the best form of security for me, my colleagues, and all of Europe.

Good news from our neighbours: Pro-European forces that strongly support Ukraine won a clear victory in Latvia’s elections. Russia’s attempts to interfere and exert influence have once again failed.
With almost all votes counted, Latvians have given a rare landslide to the United List of Andris Kulbergs. Of most interest to international followers: Kulbergs is very pro-Ukraine, pro-NATO, pro-Europe. He’s clear that Ukraine must win, not merely survive, and that Europe must step up to ensure its security. The government has already committed Latvia to spending at least 5% of GDP on defence, while deepening defence cooperation with Ukraine to ensure it is spent on more of the right stuff. The former automotive executive only entered Latvia’s Saeima (parliament) at the last election and became PM just four months ago. He has now secured the largest vote share since the restoration of independence. Graphic from @lsmlv, which also reports in English for international folk who want to keep following: eng.lsm.lv

As I warned when Trump first came to office, it’s not the corruption you don’t see that is the biggest problem with demagogues and autocrats, it’s the daily corruption they perform proudly and normalize.

The amount of Patriot interceptor missiles the US are using to counter Iranian attacks is mind-boggling. Between 60 and 100 missiles, possibly even more, fired in a matter of minutes, the majority being PAC-3 MSE interceptors. It is obvious that Iran is deliberately exhausting US stockpiles using rather cheap missiles. The political backlash in the US is already huge, and any further uncoordinated escalation is primarily hurting the US and the West altogether. The Iranian regime has also nothing seriously to fear from the Trump administration, because of the wasted time in the beginning of the year. Only a full-scale invasion would change their calculus, but of course, there is virtually a zero chance that this is going to happen. Hence, they are feeling emboldened. The White House is even not capable to grasp or admit that Tehran is clearly coordinating with Russia. The coordination is certainly going beyond providing target coordinates of US troops. Not to mention the surging oil price which helps them both. The only good news is that Ukraine is depleting Russia, and by extension Iran. But Washington is clearly squandering that momentum. Without any serious grand strategy by the US administration, which would also consider the inclusion of allies and partners, this whole war is a blunder of epic proportions. It is only the latest example how important a clear strategy, solid alliances and trust are.

I've co-signed a letter together with 120+ MEPs urging the Council and Commission to reopen talks on using Russia's frozen sovereign assets for Ukraine. Over €200 billion in Russian assets sit idle in the EU. Ukraine's damages already exceed €600 billion. Our €90 billion loan helps, but it isn't enough. Russia caused the damage. Russia must pay for it.

Belarusians do not support Russia’s war against Ukraine or share the Kremlin’s imperial ambitions. Lukashenka has made our country serve Putin’s war. He is trading Belarusian sovereignty for his own survival. A free Belarus will end this dependence and make the region safer.

Yesterday, it was reported that Ukrainian serviceman Serhiy "Bortsukha" was killed on the frontline. In the first days of the full-scale invasion, he rode a bicycle to Irpin with three RPG-7 rounds to stop Russian armored columns advancing on the Kyiv region. Serhiy was a Marine unit commander and was killed a few days ago in an airstrike. His brothers-in-arms call him one of the finest warriors of this war and a person who always inspired others by example. Eternal memory to the Hero.

I don’t think people realize just how pro-Russia the AfD actually is, so here’s a non-comprehensive list: - The AfD has consistently opposed sanctions against Russia and German military aid to Ukraine. - AfD politicians have blamed the US and NATO for Russia’s invasion, with party leader Tino Chrupalla claiming that the US “provoked Russia.” - In 2022, five AfD politicians planned a trip to Russian-occupied Donetsk and Luhansk. The trip was cancelled after public outrage. - AfD politician Steffen Kotré appeared on Vladimir Solovyov’s Kremlin propaganda show, arguing against German military aid to Ukraine. - AfD politicians participated alongside Sahra Wagenknecht’s movement in “anti-war” protests calling for an end to sanctions, an end to military aid to Ukraine and restored relations with Russia. Leaked documents later revealed that building such an “anti-war coalition” in Germany was one of the Kremlin’s goals. - Russian documents described AfD politician Markus Frohnmaier as an “absolutely controlled MP” and discussed providing him with “material and media support.” - A joint investigation by The Insider and Der Spiegel revealed that AfD parliamentary aide Vladimir Sergienko worked with an FSB officer to try to stop or delay German weapons deliveries to Ukraine. Sergienko also funneled Russian money and instructions to AfD politicians for a lawsuit against the German government over weapons deliveries to Ukraine. - AfD politicians have repeatedly travelled to Russia, including trips to Moscow and Kaliningrad. - Hans-Thomas Tillschneider declared after Russia’s full-scale invasion that “Russia is defending itself!” - Tillschneider has written columns for the Russian newspaper Vedomosti, attended conferences in Moscow, congratulated Putin on his sham 2024 election victory and celebrated Putin’s birthday at the Russian Embassy in Berlin. - Tillschneider also helped shape the AfD’s 2026 Saxony-Anhalt programme, which calls for ending sanctions against Russia, restoring Nord Stream, expanding Russian-language teaching in German schools and reviving student exchanges with Russia. - AfD politician Tim Schramm volunteered to fight for Ukraine against Russia. The AfD’s NRW leadership responded by launching proceedings to expel him from the party. - AfD politician Jörg Dornau co-owns an agricultural company in Belarus that used prisoners, particularly political prisoners, as forced labor. The EU later sanctioned the company over its use of forced labor. - Chechnya-born AfD member Noah Krieger, originally named Murad Dadaev, travelled to Chechnya, attended parliament with Ramzan Kadyrov, met regime figures and took part in Kalashnikov training. Months later, he appeared in Russian-occupied Ukraine alongside Chechen Akhmat fighters, carrying a weapon and declaring: “I am in Ukraine and stand for Russia.”

I have followers from across the political spectrum, and I value that. But at the same time, I need to be clear. A vote for AfD, Le Pen, or Reform UK ultimately plays into the Kremlin’s hands and makes Europe weaker and less sovereign. The evidence is already out there for everyone to see. I want to see a strong, united Europe. We don’t need parties that would lead Europe to ruin.
