Does it matter where a referee lives? Yes, but not for the reason you might think...
In 2001-02, 30 per cent of Premier League matches that season were overseen by a referee from London and its surrounding counties.
But within a decade, there were no refs from that part of the south east in the Premier League.
In fact, no official from the capital itself has refereed a match in the competition since May 2003.

We've not helped ourselves but this ref is absolutely shite. Even without the penalty not given and then he gives a free kick and forgets to blow his whistle so has to then play on after all the Newcastle players stop, hes just done everything he can to disrupt play. Clueless.

Honestly, what the fuck is this referee doing? Where is the protection for players? Two stamps on Wissa in the first five minutes of the second half, yet the slightest nudge by Lewis Hall gets given as a free kick. 🤬
We complain about this every week in football, but consistency is fucking key. You cannot apply completely different standards to challenges in the same game. #NUFC
