Calling all veterans! The UVC is collecting short video testimonials this week from union and non-union veterans about the importance of a strong labor movement, and why we need to pass the #PROAct. Record your video here 👇 unionveterans.capsule.video/
Everyday, 17 veterans die by suicide. 69% of those suicides are by firearm. Make no mistake: There is an undeniable link between easy access to firearms and suicide. We must always practice safe storage to save lives. #EndGunViolence bit.ly/3pAcY7k

Matt McCoy, #NavyVeteran from RI, has spoken out to raise awareness about veteran suicide. He believes that safe storage, waiting periods, and background checks are vital to preventing gun-related suicides among the veterans — and we couldn’t agree more. bit.ly/3aPHKnv

In his inaugural address, @POTUS underscored his bold commitment to fostering unity and addressing violent extremism in America. Comprehensive gun reform — including universal background checks and repealing PLCAA and gun industry legal immunity — fully align with those goals.

Extremists and white nationalists have made DC a war zone.
Last night was the hardest night I’ve experienced in a very long time. As I was driving home, without realizing how close these massive armed military guards/check points are to me, I passed a few lined up on the street. Holding the same exact gun I almost died from at my HS.

The walls go up in a new Green Zone. I saw this in Iraq, and now it’s in my hometown of Washington. A militant mob incited by the American president to end US democracy through violence brought this. But they failed. Residents of DC stand against the people they call terrorists.

As warnings of further violent action from extremists groups continue, the brave men and women of the National Guard have been deployed to protect the integrity of our institutions. This is what the Capitol looks like today. Our democratic process should not be a war zone.

My heart is breaking as I walk Capitol Hill. I served in Iraq and Afghanistan so we could enjoy peace at home. It’s hard to see the pantheon of our democracy fortified like the war zones I used to know.

The U.S. Capitol Police just announced the tragic death of Officer Howard Liebengood - for whom I mourn. Our officers need more than gratitude. They need authentic, capable leadership and meaningful support, and I call on my colleagues to join me demanding it immediately.

Important thread with mental health resources. Thank you, @KrisB_Brown. #CapitolRiots #SuicidePrevention
JUST IN: It is reported that Officer Howard Liebengood, 51, of the U.S. Capitol Police has died by suicide. He is the 2nd USCP officer to die in the days after Trump supporters stormed the Capitol. My heart goes out to Liebengood's family and loved ones. 1/ #SuicidePrevention

🎉Happy New Year!🎉 Make 2021 a safer year for you and your loved ones by committing yourself to always practicing #safestorage. Safe gun storage is an essential part of #suicideprevention, even when we own guns for protection.

When ringing in the #NewYear of 2021, make sure you safely celebrate. Shooting into the air to ‘celebrate’ means people will be hit with falling bullet fragments. Remember: ‘celebratory gunfire’ is not worth another person’s life - protect yourself and those around you.

Veterans are uniquely situated to be a part of the solution to gun violence as they were trained to run toward the sound of gunfire. They can help others by promoting proper firearm storage techniques that they themselves have practiced in the military - proven to save lives.
