“I have neither the right nor the duty to claim reparations for the domestication of my ancestors… Am I going to ask the contemporary white man to answer for the slave ships of the seventeenth century?” - Fanon!

The media is having a panic over the fact that 28% of young men in a recent survey said violence is sometimes acceptable for a cause. Was violence acceptable for the cause of defeating Hitler? Of course it was. The 28% are more correct than the 72%.

Was violence acceptable for the cause of defeating Hitler? Of course it was. Today, our country supports Ukrainian violence against Russia for the Ukrainian cause. Not to mention police violence in every country.

What is wrong, of course, is terrorism, political assassinations, every form of intentional violence against innocent civilians, and so on.

This cannot be framed as anything but anti-intellectualism rooted in ethnic hatred
La cuenta de Instagram de Ucrania ha publicado esto y me parece de lo más lamentable que he visto en un tiempo, rezuma envidia e inferioridad por los cuatro costados.

Can you imagine if Iran made propaganda posts about how bad mark twain and Nathaniel Hawthorne are? Or if Hamas made propaganda posts dissing Jewish authors like Kafka or Spinoza? I don't like Iran or Hamas but they have the sense not to do that nonsense.

I just discovered an incredibly dry book entitled 'how marriage became a sacrament' which is 1200 pages long. No doubt a towering work of scholarship, but I can't even imagine the authors mother will read it all.

An issue I have with the modern left™ is that I think the enlightenment was a good thing and a significant portion of them don't

I'm afraid if you don't believe that people can be convinced into supporting reason, that means you believe communism is impossible. Everything schmitt wrote was built on an extremely strong (secularised) version of original sin which is anathema to socialism.
12 angry men is a very well made movie and makes a strong case for dialogue and democracy in general, a deeply political movie that defends so many delusions of bourgeois society. Let’s all come together with facts and logic and get over our differences! Read Schmitt liberals

If you still think giving the government the power to “regulate big tech” is not going to backfire on the Left- even after the anti-Palestine laws- then frankly you’ll never learn.
The Haines attacker, like similar cases in the US, seems to be a disabled and deeply mentally unwell man who fell down the online conspiracy theory rabbit hole. Poverty, lack of support and an unregulated internet - the products of austerity and an atomised, privatised society.

One of the best moments in our national history and indeed in the history of the ALP.
In 1951, Australia had a referendum on banning the Communist Party. The national popular vote for the ban was Yes: 49.4% No: 50.6%

If this is a true statement, it's a quite stupid one
when I was in briefly in Spain two weeks ago, I heard someone from Sumar say "if the left has to die, it will die in service of the housing struggle, as it should be". bless the communists in the coalition who pushed the PSOE on an arms embargo and housing reforms

Im going to speak my truth. The first two seasons of the big bang theory are okay. Pretty tolerable. I liked Leslie winkel.

It's not surprising that the pope believes AI can't be conscious and doesn't have a soul because he's the pope. Of course he thinks humans have souls given to us by God. Pro-AI people getting mad about this are ridiculous, and anti-AI people praising it are also wrong.

I sometimes still get slightly annoyed the ANU encampment moved on late at night instead of staying put when the police arrived. It would have been the biggest story in all the news bulletins. Hundreds of people were willing to get arrested that day.

Im a massive law abiding square. I hate it when people talk a big game about confronting the police or punching nazis or throwing things. Yet the one time civil disobedience would have actually worked and made sense, the Cbr left didn't do it. Sad!

there's a huge organizing tension between disability being a huge vector of actual social marginalization that is overlooked a lot and the fact that ableism accusations seem to be one of the most potent forms of wreckerism introduced in the contemporary era

The other thing right wingers are missing in this annoying classical music discourse is that the Chinese are more invested in classical music than we Anglo-Saxons are! China and (when it existed) the USSR were/are great preservers of western culture

I believe in the greatness of western Christian culture (which birthed Karl Marx and Toussaint, after all). But if this was the height of that culture, I would become a Khmer Rouge supporter.
Goosebumps. For all its faults, Western Christian culture is still worth defending.

I'm not a classical music enjoyer but even i can tell you, there are so many brilliant short accessible classical pieces you could link (like Danse Macabre by saint säens) without bringing shame and dishonour on yourself
