They are the only organisation capable of holding the government accountable. We need to make them the official opposition party.
Affirmative Repositioning (AR) leader Professor Job Amupanda has rejected the proposed allocation of N$200 million to the Ministry of Defence in its current form, proposing that the money be placed under the Finance Ministry’s contingency fund until concerns about its intended use are addressed. Contributing to the Mid-Year Budget Review debate in the National Assembly, Amupanda stated that MPs had not been given sufficient information about outstanding government utility bills or the purpose of the proposed allocation. He also questioned fuel deliveries to a military facility, saying fuel transported from Botswana was not being subjected to the required taxes and levies. He questioned transactions involving August 26 and private companies and called for accountability over government procurement. Prof. Amupanda said the Mid-Year Budget Review should promote fiscal transparency, public accountability and real-time management of public finances, rather than simply approve additional spending without proper scrutiny. He also highlighted the need for the budget to address economic shocks, including the impact of foot-and-mouth disease and external developments on Namibia’s economy. Germany has provided N$372.6 million in concessional financing towards the N$498.6 million rehabilitation and expansion of the Karibib-Usakos road, covering the bulk of the cost of upgrading the key logistics route. The project involved the rehabilitation and expansion of 31.2 kilometres of Trunk Road 7/1 between Karibib and Usakos into a 2+1 carriageway, with dedicated overtaking lanes, wider shoulders and new surfacing. The financing, equivalent to approximately €20 million, was provided by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development through KfW Development Bank as an interest-reduced loan with a 10-year repayment period. The upgraded road was officially opened by Works and Transport Minister Veikko Nekundi, Erongo Governor Dr Nathalia /Goagoses and Germany's Ambassador-Designate to Namibia Thomas Wimmer. thebrief.com.na/2026/10/germ… #namibia #finances #roadupgrade #expansion @GermanEmbassyNA @works_ministry @KfW_FZ_int

Those who meet the required threshold will advance to the second stage, a public interview conducted by members of the Judicial Service Commission. The date for the written assessment has not yet been announced. The successful candidate will be recommended to President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah for appointment, in accordance with the Constitution and applicable legislation. The term of the current Prosecutor-General, Martha Imalwa, ends in December. Imalwa was appointed acting Prosecutor-General by Nandi-Ndaitwah last year after reaching retirement age. A mother of eight from Ashipepe village in the Eengodi Constituency of the Oshikoto Region is appealing for help to install a tap at her homestead. Indileni Haidula has four children living with ectodermal dysplasia, a rare group of disorders affecting the skin, sweat glands, hair, teeth and nails. The condition requires them to have regular access to clean water. Haidula says she lost a son to the condition in 2005, when he was five years old. She says she is raising the children without support from their fathers and has also faced stigma in her community. “Some people in the community mock me and my children because of how we look,” she said. Community activist Petrus Theofelus is appealing to special schools to consider enrolling the children.
