I've said it before but it came up recently again. Game design is just controlled curiosity. "Fun" is the reward you brain gives you when you learn something and get better at it. Give players a reason to be curious, reward them for it, and the rest follows. (Art by me.)

The most effective teams are the ones that understand what they're trying to achieve and why. AI may change how we work, but clarity remains one of the most powerful force multipliers available to us.

Literally just talking about this yesterday - with a AAA creative director. It's even worse when the business reason is, "The game that makes the most money is one, so we should too." This is bad game design, unless you have a game about locomotion... JSRF, Forza Horizon

To all my Xbox friends - I feel you. Take a breath. Come back at it after a rest. It's wild out there but interesting things can spring from chaos.

Producers must be agents of clarity. Very few things in this job are as helpful to clarity as the simple checklist.

Well, we had a few years there of good things like the gym, other hobbies, a healthy relationship with sleep... all that's going away in 2039 apearantly. 🫡

Incredible part about gamedev that isn't mentioned enough. You can make something in half an hour that looks like it should've taken six months to develop. Equally, you can spend six months stuck on something that looks like it should've been possible in half an hour.

It's sorta like E3 was with games but it's mil-sim. (which is now almost indistinguishable from games)

It's been a while since I checked in here, but I want you all to know that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is a good video game.

I did one of my best pieces of art for this man in class and he pointed out it didn't have enough contrast. "Just grit your teeth and put some black in there." Some of the best advice I've ever been given.
Happy heavenly birthday to National Cartoonists Society Award winner, "Little Orphan Annie" comic strip artist, "Superman," "Batman," "Green Lantern" and "Adam Strange" inker, Tex Blaisdell. Blaisdell also assisted Hal Foster on the "Prince Valiant" comic strip.

I hear a lot of folks say, "Start a game studio!" but I don't hear anyone say, "Hey Nick, here's $10M and a cool IP, start a game studio." I'm big on details.

We had a good Independence Day weekend, we watched 1776 the musical (highly recommend!), ran two different D&D campaigns, did tons of gardening and grilling and kept the art skills sharp with a request from my kids. (...please tell me what I just drew - I…lnkd.in/gnWTrJsg
