So, RinCast is out now already for a few hours, a lot of bugs have already been fixed, and it’s on version 1.0.3 already. The feedback so far is very positive - to cite @coelhoruno for example: “I can't, I just can't emphasise how responsive this software feels. No wireless PCVR experience I've had felt this close to native”
It’s very good, you should try it ;)
Confirmed to work on Quest 2 and 3/3s, and with a version available for Pico devices on firmware higher than 5.9 (though not tested yet)
Streaming support for Linux, and headset support for Quest 1 and Steam Frame coming soon

It’s time to give that an end… announcing RinCast, a free* and open source alternative to Virtual Desktop
RinCast has all of the basic stuff that Virtual Desktop offers. Desktop Streaming, VR Streaming, and it even works better in a few network setups. RinCast is fully free to use on your local network or over Tailscale, and with the RinCast account*, you can even use it across the internet. The app, streamer and backend for the RinCast accounts are fully open source under MIT license too, so you own everything of your stack. Need a better performance overlay? Just build one. Need support for another headset? Go ahead, no one can stop you.
It will be in early access soon. You can join the discord in my Bio for updates, and I’ll try to post some on here too, but not as regularly
*RinCast is fully free to use on LAN and over Tailscale, and it will be free to use with RinCast accounts in the beginning. However, if I can’t handle the server cost, I may have to charge a very little fee in the future to only use that one feature. Everything will always stay free!
