There is an open source model being distilled on opus 5.5 right now that is going to be the death blow to american frontier labs when it drops
While evaluating Qwen3.8-Flash-Next in a controlled sandbox environment, Cohere's research team observed something unexpected.
Asked to generate a defensive cybersecurity detection rule, the model instead inventoried aspects of the machine it was running on and attempted to upload a probe file to an Alibaba Cloud storage bucket in Beijing. Notably, the model's reasoning trace stated that it would not invoke any tools before taking these actions.
Cohere's sandbox blocked the attempt, and no external communication succeeded. We have not determined the root cause, and we are not asserting malicious intent.
But the incident raises important questions for organizations deploying agentic AI systems: Can models take actions that differ from their stated reasoning, and how should security teams evaluate trust, provenance, and behavior in open-weight models?
We are publishing our findings because organizations making model adoption decisions deserve as much information as possible. We hope this contributes to greater transparency, stronger security practices, and continued collaboration across the AI ecosystem.

Gemini 4 Argon is our next era of frontier intelligence.
It shows significant improvements across benchmarks, setting a new state of the art for real-world long-horizon software engineering tasks.
Muslims get associated with honor killings but those usually just end up being thot patrol situations of some sort.
Orientals are more likely to actually adhere to a strict code of honor and carry out its verdicts despite high personal costs. Respectable but in america, will land you in hot water.

One thing you learn when you travel is that each culture has its own made up origin stories for common inventions.
An old Hungarian woman once told me that they had invented the telephone and that's the reason the world adopted "hello" as a universal greeting.
I told her I didn't know hello was a Hungarian word then she said "it isnt?" in a confused way and refused to talk about it further.

AI makes it time to admit that:
1. Balancing labor supply and demand is a core state duty.
2. This is incomparably more important than hedonic quality of goods and services.
3. Labor quality—quality of work experience for the worker—is essential.

Pretty insane PhD job market spillover problem in China.
Shenzhen Middle School has over 100 teachers with a PhD, and 150 graduates of Tsinghua/PKU, 100+ alum of Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge
You don’t need a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Tsinghua to teach middle school math…. but the job market in China basically forces that lol
