First of all, there’s no such neighbourhood entitled by law and approved by former governing bodies labelled “Abeed.” Y’all realise there are actual Afro-Palestinians on this app that you can discuss this with, right? The area in question is Al Jalla’a, which is how residents generally refer to it. Some locals use “Al Abeed” for parts of the district in the same informal, derogatory way people elsewhere use racial nicknames for Asian, Black, or Latino neighborhoods. The problem with some Americans is that you can use derogatory names on English. But God forbid derogatory names are used in another language. You ever taken a drive through downtown Beirut and heard cuss words in Arabic during peak hour? Heck even I was blushing lmao In addition Black Palestinians are not confined to areas by law or custom. They live throughout Gaza, and many non-Black residents also live in Al Jalla’a.
