the dynamic of lib/left political discourse seems rly simple to encapsulate:
- the leftist takes a "morally virtuous" but non-pragmatic position
- liberal says it's a dumb bc it won't happen and there's a better approach to reduce harm
- leftist takes this dispute as the liberal being morally opposed to the initial position
- conversation is reframed as the liberal person is anti-'good thing'
like that's literally the entire discourse now, and once you see it you can't unsee it

When temperatures break 100 degrees, I always appreciate when officials remind me to avoid the heat. I tend to forget and then wonder why I'm warm. A helpful reminder is all I need to take off my jacket and find a shady tree to stand under.
