You need to be dressing up your jeans more. Ditch the hoodie and sneakers. And the trash denim jeans. Loafers and quality knit quarter zips🤌 The killer chocolate suede penny loafers you see me wearing here are from Meermin (affiliate): ktku.co/1qk Hard to beat for under $250 USD.

With the right strategy, you can build muscle, get stronger, and improve your endurance at the same time. The catch? You can't maximize them all at the same time. This is one of the coaching tips in my new app, Capacity Training:

The simplest way to build a network: Be relentlessly useful. Talk positively about people behind their backs. Send helpful resources. Connect friends with friends. Learn a skill then share it. Shout people out in public. The best way to get a friend is to be a friend.

FYI - the best physique for a suit isn’t a bodybuilder’s physique. Think broad shoulders, developed chest, lean waist, athletic legs. Enough muscle to give the tailoring shape but not so much that you’re fighting the clothes.

10 hours of exercise per week = >3x the risk reduction of the 150 min/wk guidelines! And wait until you hear about what 20 hours per week will give you! If you want to live a long time, move A LOT!

A lot of men get into their late 30s and 40s and still want to delude themselves into believing they're only three or four workouts away from being 25 years old again

Pea coat season. Yes, I've had the same pea coat for nearly 10 years. And it's not even an expensive one (it's the Doyle pea coat from MERC). I might finally replace/upgrade this piece this year, although I still love it because of the contrast tartan lining. Even inexpensive items can last a long time provided you take good care of them. I always tell my clients and readers that you should treat whatever you buy like a luxury item. Take proper care and you'll be surprised at how well it holds over time.

There is real genius behind those that can identify the boring basics in any domain, be it health/fitness, finance, relationships, business etc. and then execute them unflinchingly. Day after day. Like a metronome.

Textured merino wool sweater Navy corduroy trousers Chocolate suede loafers One of the keys to fall style is TEXTURE. No need to mess around with bold colors and patterns if you don't want to. The loafers I'm wearing here are unlined/unstructured and are from Meermin (affiliate): ktku.co/1Ru One of my favorite picks ups this year.

True for both feeling good & feeling bad... You take a few days easy because you're tired... In your brain you're "losing everything", in your body, the fitness is there, you're just shedding fatigue. However, you get busy for a month & your brain gets over that initial phase & you get out of the habit - you're not conscious of the fitness you lost, but your body says otherwise! Your brain will fool you - both ways. 🧠 When in doubt... Zoom out.
The fundamental problem... Our brain operates in days, our body in months-years.

Heads up - Gustin just put their 1968 Made in the USA selvedge denim jeans on sale for $99 (affiliate): ktku.co/1SJ It is a pre-order but that's a steal of a deal for high quality American denim. Lots of fit options available with a 30 return/exchange policy. Easily the best deal on quality selvedge denim right now.

See the little stripe of fabric on the cuff of these jeans below? This is the hallmark of a self-finished edge on a pair of selvedge denim jeans. You ought to have a pair. This is how denim is supposed to be made.

In my teens and 20s I desperately wanted to get bigger and more muscular. Since about 30, I haven’t had much desire to get bigger and have actually purposely lost a bit of muscle recently. My goal now is to (mostly) maintain mass while focusing on improving running/endurance. I think it's important to let your training change as your goals change. I don't think it's necessarily bad to keep trying to add muscle mass, but especially if you're natural, at a certain point, I just don't think the effort is worth the reward. Once you’ve spent years focusing on it and added 30+ lbs. of lean mass, it just takes so much work to add even a few pounds of additional lean mass. I just don't think it's worth it for most. Plus, it takes so much less effort to maintain vs build. Also, there's a whole bunch of different aspects of health and fitness out there, and it's fun to try new things and get those “beginner” gains again.
I have a question for all coaches and trainers. As someone who enjoys training, always have, as you get older why would you want to get bigger? I don’t mean as in fat but gaining excess muscle mass? I see most former athletes trying to drop weight. Thoughts?
