Labour announce Bristol NE candidate @damienegan as their candidate for the Kingswood by-election
Chris Skidmore has announced he will step down from Parliament. This will trigger a by-election in Kingswood, a bellwether seat in the Bristol suburbs that is due to be split between the new Bristol North East and North East Somerset & Hanham seats at the next general election
So the greens manage to hold on to Bishopston and Ashley Down. Labour are slightly up on their 2016 performance when they won one of the seats in the ward but the greens have gained at the expense of the Lib Dem’s since 2016. Sets up a fascinating contest in May!

Polling day in Bristol today as voters in Bishopston and Ashley Down ward go to the polls. It’s a two horse race between Labour and the Greens who currently hold both seats in the ward. A Labour gain would see them tie the greens as largest party on the council
Plus of course we have the fun game of how to spin the results ahead of next May’s all outs! A Labour gain and the pre-2021 status quo is restored, another big swing to the greens is great for them and a swing against the greens is a positive sign for Labour.

Morning folks, unfortunately your correspondent has a real world job and couldn’t be up all night so here’s a recap of the state of play across the region
Amongst other places, voters in BANES, South Glos and North Somerset have all out council elections tomorrow. If you live there make sure to vote between 7am-10pm and bring photo ID with you.
There’s things to watch out for if you’re a Labour activist too: can they gain ground in the wards that make up Filton and Bradley Stoke, and how do they fare in BANES where in the 2021 metro mayor election they came second less than 150 votes behind the Tories
