With a 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets, the Hurricanes tied an NHL record for most wins in the month of October (11), while Pyotr Kochetkov took the record for longest winning streak to start the season Here are the goalie hugs, storm surge, hug circle, and Halloween candy toss! #CarolinaCulture #CBJ #NHL

5 US Presidents. The best was Obama. I made him laugh with a comment about #ncstate and he kept me around for a couple of minutes talking hoops.
Who’s the most famous person you’ve ever spoken to? Not “seen from far away” — actually talked to, even for a minute. A quick hello, a handshake, a normal conversation… and you still remember it. Who was it?

Fox: Why are you here this morning? Trump rally attendee: Well, in the late 70s, I was a little too young to go to South America for the Jonestown Massacre. But this is as close as I'll ever get, so that's why I'm here. There's nothing like seeing a cult right up front.

Hurricanes with their win last night sit atop the NHL. In their last 12 games, the Canes are 10-1-1 outscoring the opposition 51/28. Canes lead the league in goals for (53) and are 8th in goals against (34). Sebastian Aho is leading the way for the Canes with 8G, 11A in 14 games and an impressive 56.7% success in the face-off dot. Incredible start considering the injuries the Canes have dealt with.

I LOVE old Hollywood stories like this. Give a read.
A friend of my dad once told a story about his day with Lauren Bacall a number of decades ago. He was home from college for the summer and doing work around Bacall’s house on Long Island. She was in her mid-30s and it was not too long after her husband Humphrey Bogart had died in 1957. Lauren was very pleasant and brought him refreshments in the morning. But at some point, I think she realized something was off. So while he was doing some outside work, she casually found out if he knew her name. “Oh yes, you’re Miss Backle (rhyming with tackle).” “That’s right, I’m Miss Backle.” She proceeded to head off, make them both lunch, and then invited him inside to join her. As they sat together eating, she had perked up. Miss Backle asked him about his life, showed concern for his problems, and gave him advice. She also shared some stories of her own (non-Hollywood ones...though he later figured out her "friend Jason" was future husband Jason Robards) and kept him laughing throughout. To say she was winning him over was an understatement. At one point after they had talked for a while, he said that he probably should get back to work. Miss Backle said that there was no hurry and that she hadn't enjoyed a conversation this much in a long time. The comment confused him as he thought surely this beautiful and charming woman must have more interesting friends than him, such as that Jason guy. But he later realized why… she loved how genuine he was and that he had absolutely no clue that he was talking to a famous movie star. The day went on with him doing interior and exterior jobs (while Miss Backle kept him company off and on) and it was by far the best working day of his life. Her charm did not ease up. When the day ended, she said she’d ask for him if she needed work done in the future. That never happened, but he'd forever have that one delightful day with Miss Backle. They’d always have plaster of Paris. The next day he went in to work to get his assignment. He started telling his co-workers about this wonderful woman. Now word had gotten around the previous day as to where he had been sent, so they just looked at each other in bafflement and amusement. Finally, after listening to him go on about her for a while, they let him know that he had been interacting with the famous movie star who was married to Humphrey Bogart, with a slightly different pronunciation to her last name.

The Hurricanes have played the last 7 games without Jordan Staal, the last 5 without Taylor Hall, the last four without Mark Jankowski and the first 11 without Seth Jarvis. They're 7-1-1 on the road and have scored a league best 51 goals.

A New Jersey-based fan named Rev Ciancio visited 77 different ballparks this season. At each one, he would get a hot dog with mustard, eat it after “Take Me Out to the Ballgame,” and grade it. Here are his top 10: 10. Joliet Slammers (National Association of Professional Baseball): A “rock solid” offering. 9. Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs (Triple-A PHI): “Exactly what a ballpark hot dog is supposed to taste like.” 8. Sussex County Miners (National Association of Professional Baseball): “They’re the only team that I’ve been to that has a ripper, where they’re actually deep-frying the hot dog.” 7. Albuquerque Isotopes (Triple-A COL): “It’s almost foul to highlight how good the hot dog was because there’s so much good there.” 6. Boston Red Sox: “This is one of the Major League stadiums where the lore of the hot dog holds true.” 5. Richmond Flying Squirrels (Double-A SF): “It was just a well-rounded hot dog. Like there was magic and you don’t know why.” 4. Brooklyn Cyclones (High-A NYM): “It’s part of their culture to have a good hot dog.” 3. Chicago Cubs: “I feel like Chicago teams have a right and a duty to produce good hot dogs.” 2. Chicago Dogs (American Association): The poppyseed bun was an “ingredient difference maker.” 1. Reading Fightin Phils (Double-A Phillies): “When you eat a hot dog at Reading, it’s as though every single hot dog was individually cooked. One person took one hot dog and made sure it was perfect.” Read about Ray here: atmlb.com/4sjmoGx

Most #ncstate fans agree (myself included) on firing DD. I also have a grain of salt to offer: We RARELY have losing seasons. It sucks, but it sure ain’t often. We can endure this one, especially if it brings change. #GoPack

I don’t really keep up with other teams once they play #ncstate, but I flipped on UVA/Duke. The Hoos, who absolutely kicked our ass, are sitting at a whopping 4-3. 🙄 #goodgooglymoogly #GoPack

This is the way. And Rahm Emmanuel is definitely getting my attention for 2028.

I just told my wife, a decade in the wilderness aside, I’ve never had a consistently good team. 😂 I mean, I was only 4/5 during the #ncstate 72-74 run. This is what it’s like huh?? 😜#carolinaculture #gopack

I was today years old when I learned that Herbert Hoover died at the #waldorfastoria, a place I’ve been multiple times.
Saturday, October 17, Herbert Clark Hoover suffered a “massive, internal hemorrhage from the upper gastro-intestinal tract.” From the onset of the hemorrhage through Tuesday, October 20, several doctors worked together to alleviate him of his condition, administering 200 blood transfusions in the process and miraculously were able to stop the bleeding. But Tuesday morning, 8:30 AM, Hoover slipped into coma, and the bleeding returned along with an irregular heartbeat. At this point, there was nothing more doctors could do. Three hours later, with his two sons by his side, the oldest President at the time (90 years old) passed away in his Waldorf-Astoria 31-A apartment. CoD: internal hemorrhage that caused an “accumulation of toxic products” in Hoover’s bloodstream due to inadequate kidney function.

My Dad was dying. I asked @wolfpackclub if Amato could call Dad. He did, & it was a special moment. After Dad passed, I ran into Amato & thanked him for the call. He remembered it, got teary & we sat there hugging. THAT is who coach was. He loved people, like V. #GoPack 😔

Sean Bunn was a dear friend of mine & loved by many. I pull for the Sox b/c of him. He took this incident in stride. May Sean’s memory be forever blessed. ❤️⚾️ #redsox #ncredsoxnation

Jesus H. 😬 This is basically PCness run amuck.
My HOA sent me a letter requesting that I stop handing out full-size candy bars for Halloween this year. -Fun-size bars are usually 15–25¢ each. -Full-size are around 75¢–$1. Most people give out 2–3 fun-size anyway, so the real difference is often only a few cents per kid. Am I crazy, or is it weird for an HOA to police this?
