JUST IN: Pringles is offering 200 years of free chips to one lucky winner who pledges to have their ashes buried in a Pringles can after death.
Why is it that it’s the @wsj_com reporting on this, and this barely gets any airtime in the U.K?
They are talking about putting taxes up in October to cover the deficit, WTF, you can get arrested here for saying the wrong thing about the wrong group of people but this is fine?!? FUCK
Excellent article in the Wall Street Journal on Britain's unsustainable welfare spending:
— 7 million people (over 10% of the UK population) now claim at least one or more sickness or disability benefit. This is up 60% in the past 6 years.
— The UK will spend over £100 billion pound this year on sickness and disability benefits. This is projected to increase to £130 billion a year by 2030.
— No other Western country has seen such a rise in disability claims. In the US, 10.6 million people claim some form of federal disability payment, despite the population being 5x larger.
— 1 in 7 new cars sold in the UK are under the Motability scheme; however, only 10% of cars are modified for a disability. In one dealership, 25 out of 26 cars they sold in August were all under the Motability scheme.
— Charities, consultants, YouTubers and TikTokers have all sprung up, telling people how to maximise benefit access. Some of these videos receive hundreds of thousands of views. Over 1,000 people a day are signing on for PIP.
— According to a Government survey from 2024, 25% of the UK's working age population could theoretically be classed as disabled under the current criteria and access these benefits.
— A minimum wage worker who works 40 hours per week would take home around £1,880 per month after tax; however, if you are classed as too sick to work and claim PIP, you can take home £2,000 tax free per month.

OK, a physical implant seems to be the leading possibility, and I think Mark's October 8 post warning about this might have caused the attacker to begin the drain today.
This would pass the Ledger Live "Genuine Check" since the actual board and secure element are real, and Ledger can't detect spying implants. You wouldn't need a crazy secure element exploit for this. And cellular closes the exfiltration route question (Mark showed that these spy-implanted Ledgers have SIM cards in them with active data plans)
So the attackers are sitting there farming freshly generated seeds, waiting for the right moment to strike (if you start draining, everyone gets alerted). Probably a good moment to strike is when a post about physically modified Ledgers with SIM cards in them gets 75,000 views...
Many things still up in the air, but I'd bet on this being the vector: a specific vendor selling Ledgers with physical spy implants, bypassing the Genuine Check, spying on seeds, and doing a mass drain after seeing Mark's warning getting traction.
This looks like this could be exactly what I'm investigating. Anyone affected, please contact me or open your ledger and send me pictures so we can confirm if there's a bug in there (pictures: ledger board on top, spy implant below).

Ledger is investigating reports of loss of funds from users in South East Asia who purchased products from a reseller named CryptoBillis. As a precaution, and pending the results of our investigation, we have asked CryptoBilis to pause all sales and shipments of Ledger devices. We recommend Ledger users who purchased from this reseller in the last 90 days to not initiate set up if you have not done so yet. If you have set up your Ledger device, consider moving assets to a new Ledger signer (with new seed). We will continue to inform customers of updates as the investigation progresses.

Not a bad plan
Instead of being angry at the UK government you could simply long Greggs $GRG
Removal of two-child benefit cap puts £2-3 billion (~£3,500 per year per additional child) in the hands of people with highest propensity to consume Greggs products
Govt subsidised steak bakes 🚀
