Two SENDCOs seeking positive feedback from learners and families on what has worked well with remote learning. Our aim is to examine how these successes can inform classroom practice when schools return. @rlrossi64 @ModernCassie

This is what I’ve found with my 7 year old. His diagnosis of autism was confirmed a few weeks into lockdown. He’s been the happiest I’ve ever known him to be without having to go to school. He’s not having meltdowns, no physical aggression, and isn’t chewing his hands/clothes.

Absolutely - many of our ASD students are LOVING being at home and thriving working remotely and sending work in. They are positive in their online communications with staff etc

This is so hard, I have noticed it with a few of my very young pupils rather than the older ones. With our phonics classes, we have cut down how many we were offering, as some parents were overdoing it and the kids were getting overwhelmed.

It’s definitely hard for some at the moment. I haven’t got a panacea but we are finding some improvement when I have a regular 1:1 with a pupil online to check in. Also supporting/being with parents too, who are finding it challenging & not wanting to ‘stand over’ their child.
Today there has been discussions around a lethargy in remote learning, do you agree? What could be done to remedy this? #WhatWorks #SEND
As some children head back into school, what aspects of online learning will you be keeping to support SEND pupils? #SEND #onlinelearning #WhatWorks

Different things were at the fore of our attention, before, and we had different demands on our time. Fresh starts will draw on what has been successful in recent weeks.

If it's any help to give you comfort. She now is sitting her GSCE's. Doing better than I thought she would.
It's a fight, but one worth taking on. Never stop believing, even when others do.

All of those. Also, the environment is low-arousal compared to a busy classroom. Not much background noise. I take care not to present her with overlapping demands.

Zero resilience that adults other than us can’t cope with as he loses his temper but home is safe and therefore even though he gets cross, it is manageable. He has attachment disorder and ADHD.

Being able to choose the time and the subject makes mine feel more in control and therefore results in “more productivity”
Parents of children with SEND : have you discovered anything about your child as a learner that you didn’t know before lockdown? Please share your experiences of remote learning.

Works best online in short engaging chunks. Maths Factor is working well although he skips most of the tutorial videos (they are repetitive). Can't find anything that works for literacy (which he hates).
