Sally Awad, 23, is the eldest of eight siblings living in Gaza with their parents after their family home was completely destroyed during the genocide. The family spent nine months displaced before returning to find nothing left but rubble, with no clothes, food, or belongings remaining. They now live together in a small damaged room inside their grandmother’s partially bombed house, which has no proper doors, windows, or roof and leaks badly during winter. Sally’s father suffers from a slipped disc and severe asthma that make movement and breathing difficult, while her mother and her 10-year-old brother both live with thalassemia and anemia and need ongoing medication, vitamins, and proper nutrition the family cannot afford. Sally became the main provider after stopping her own university studies, while her younger siblings, including two sisters and three brothers in their final year of high school, are trying to continue their education despite being unable to pay for tuition or private lessons. The family currently depends on donations to cover food, medicine, blankets, mattresses, clothing, and safer shelter as they continue living through worsening hardship and insecurity.
