#FunFact: Joni Mitchell is a staunch racist. At a benefit concert for Ruben "Hurricane" Carter, Joan Baez asked her to introduce Muhammad Ali. Mitchell was adamant about introducing Ali as "a jive ass n*gger" before Baez removed her from the introduction. She wore Blackface in public and on the cover of her album "Don Juan's Reckless Daughter" as her alter ego, "Art Nouveau." When confronted about it, Mitchell doubled down and defended her use of Blackface.
"I got away with it … I got the greatest reviews for that record in black magazines. They saw the brother, they reviewed it, and they got it." There has been no evidence of any Black magazines in support of Joni Mitchell in Blackface
